I've followed John Mayall since the '60's. He's ever evolving but always true to the blues. Carolyn is a perfect fit. She has a unique clean style that stays true to the guitar legacy of the band, powerful and passionate.

John Mayall still rocks at 85. And, congrats Carolyn Wonderland for becoming the first female to join the ranks of guitar legends like Peter Green, Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor, Freddie Robinson and Walter Trout groomed by the Godfather of British Blues.

What a great move on Carolyn's part to put her own band on hold & step into the spot of a Blues breaker . Welcome to to world of guitar legends Carolyn you deserve the to show what we all know & that's she's a fine player & one fine lady that can play those Blues. Good for her & good for John . We miss Rocky Athas but he's doing fine back with his band burning up Texas as he has done for so long. We all know ole Buddy Whittington is doing the same , man super players all ..

First heard John down at the Castle Pub in Tooting Broadway for about 5 bob in the late 50's about the time of the Decca album with "Crawling Up A Hill" and Roger Dean on it. He had Eric C, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baler with him!!!!!!! In honesty I really think his voice sounds better for being mature now. Now I've heard Carolyn have to get the new album; hope it has some of his great blues harp on it. He really deserves to be a blues legend.

I paid a bit more than you Bob, for seven and six I heard John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers at the Blue Moon in Cheltenham in 1966 with EC on guitar, John McVie on bass and Hughie Flint on drums - and then I went out and bought the "Beano" album and got my sister to knit me a Dennis the Menace pullover - getting back to this, I love the spirit of this young lady - never heard of her before until now - by the way she's as great a singer as she is a guitar player - may she live a long happy life !

No offence to women guitarists, my favorite is a preteen Chinese rock guitarist YOYO. However, this doesn't cut it. She trys to sound like early Clapton aka Stormy Monday but her guitar is thin, playing weak and she is nowhere near the young Eric. If she wasn't female, Mayall wouldn't have given her a second look. Anyway, who can follow Buddy Whitington?
@TheCappedCruiser4 жыл бұрын
You are so wrong on almost every point. So how would YOYO (whoever she is ..) play the blues, I wonder? You need to understand that not all guitarists, especially female ones, strive to sound 'near the young eric'. Instead, they strive to develop their own style, even incorporating their own limitations. Blues players with integrity are increasingly rare these days, but Carolyn is the real deal, and will still be working hard years after YOYO (who did you say she was, again?) has returned to obscurity.
@japonaliya4 жыл бұрын
@@TheCappedCruiser Why the fuck don't you listen to YOYO before commenting? She is on YT. Search for YOYO doing a cover of Glasgow Kiss, especially after the 3 minute mark. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5TKnoZ_g8mHmtU and then talk. No, she doesn't play blues but you can hear bits of blues in her playing if you listen carefully. I am a blues player myself and I think I am just average good, yet I can out play Caroline and don't think that's anything to brag about. IMO the best living are Buddy Whittington, and Johnny Hiland. No one can touch them.. but then again, YOYO is 10-11 when the YT vids we're recorded.

So many great blues guitarists including females. I've heard much better performances by Wonderland than here, but Buddy was definitely my favorite. Could be I just loved the material they did when he was in the band. I think I saw the band with Buddy more than previous guitarists. There was a spell where Coco Montoya and Walter Trout were both in the band and that was pretty cool.
@japonaliya4 жыл бұрын
@@sbearly Buddy is ultra smooth and what a tone. Johnny Hiland is just as good but not only a blues guitarist. Dudley Taft is also a little known bluesman who hybrids SRV and Gibbons, but is not derivative.

Just listened again. Listen to Dudley Tafts version of Have You Heard kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZrbeXebqbZjjtE essentially the same song except he plays it in a minor key. Anyway except for a novelty she sucks and Mayall must be getting senile. She really can't play, her "feeling" is her struggling to play. As I said, I am a living room guitarist, haven't been in a band for years, yet I can say with out conceit that I could play rings around her which is no great accomplishment. If she wasn't a girl, she would be booed off stage.
