I installed a couple of these and have some tips for F10/F11: I use the CD changer cover in the glovebox to mount the unit, just cut an appropriately sized section of the side closest to the center console to feed the wiring through. No need to remove the cluster, there is a clear line of sight between the side and the mid section of the dashboard when the side cover is removed. Cut some of the wrapping cloth on the main harness to give the MOST/optical wires more slack; this allows you to reposition the bulky connection between existing and new power harness to the side / under the CIC unit. Replace the center 12V socket with an USB (outdoor) plug. This you can get from Amazon etc. It has a female plug on the other end to allow you to plug the unit in. Much more "factory" than the unit USB cable dangling somewhere.

We can also recommend the installation of the MMI module behind the screen (there is a lot of space there and it will fit perfectly.

Hello, the microphone is necessary for some MMI functionalities, so despite the fact that the process is not necessary, we highly recommend to plug connector from our PnP harness to OEM microphone, as it is not possible to take this signal from head unit, due to design of the head unit.

Can you send your car's VIN to our support team? Your car might be equipped with a different head unit type, thus there will be no AUX connector on the MMI harness.

I thought of a few questions while watching the video: What is the purpose of the wifi antenna in MMI Prime? Does the device communicate with the phone only via USB cable or also wirelessly? Does MMI Prime also support the smaller 10.25 BMW 5 screens (not the 12.3-inch ones)?

The MMI Prime allows wired and wireless connection, for this second the WiFi antenna is needed as your phone will connect through WiFi with the MMI. Yes, the MMI is compatible with 6.5”, 8.8” and 10.2” screens.

What purpose does plugging in the aux serve? I have seen others do it without plugging in the aux

When we are talking about the MMI retrofit in BMWs with CIC head unit the aux connection ensures the audio signal between head unit and MMI. This way you can play music through the device or hear notifications from the BMW audio system. The BMWs which have never type of head units, have different architecture, thus this connection is not necessary there.

Ha Ha welcome to BMW. I will say its the same for many cars too. Any plug that hasn't been removed in years are usually very hard to pull out first time. Watching videos and then pulling out cables always look easy until you try it yourself for the first time. I do remember doing speaker replacement as first retrofit and could never unplug some connectors. It gets easy after when you get into the rhythm.
