It's just that the AC indicators are off but the AC works momentarily. The A/C system is turned on to dehumidify the air, which causes the windshield to defog. There is a tendency to fog the windshield otherwise when water is sprayed. Please don't think you can cool the ambient air without using energy. So the AC compressor works and it draws the power to cool the air. There is no magic in this. It rather has to be highlighted as a smart safety feature that the i20 has.

I tested the same feature in my i20 sportz today it works alike. But the cooling air blowed is not possible without working of AC Compressor in the background though AC button is off.
