Well that was a trip down memory lane I had forgotten all about these breaker phones I never owned one but remember them being on the market and speaking to people who used them in the 80's.

Nice business like set! Out of the box thinking while designing this thing! I do like these 3 rotary adjustments at the bottom!

Coincidentally I was working on an ancient Philips CD104 player today, battling an intermittent fault which turned out to be the very same through hole connection issue. The service manual called them “griplets”, which in all my years, I never heard them referred to before!

I am sure there was a 1970s car phone set by hy-gain for the US market 27mhz AM. Found it Hy-Gain 16 (2716) "Hide and speak" just some old CB history from the USA.

There were plenty of hideaway American sets at the time. Richard

I understand why it's needed, but the 1000-Hz tone, lately, seems to be coming through very strongly. Like, annoyingly strong. If there is no audio control you can adjust to attenuate that, can you please try to remember to kill the signal generator when you're not actively working on the receiver? Sorry - hate to sound like an old codger but ... who am I kidding - I'll be 61 this month! :-D

You need a graphic equaliser to notch out 1khz. Never mind about your age, I'm 62 in October. Richard

Were these sold as a 3.6w max set in the same way as the Great chassis were sold as 3.5w not 4w?
@ukfmcbradioservicingTango212 ай бұрын
Yes. It's the old maths thing in rounding up numbers. 3 o 3.4 rounds down to 3., whereas 3.5 to 4 rounds up to 4. However, this is far bettter than the American sales crap at the same time where everything was sold with power input rather than output. Therefore 3.5W handhelds had 5W stamped on the front panel.....and the German 2W radios really being 0.5W. I contrast the UK Realistic TRC1002 was sold as a 1.5W handheld. It is & has a 7W PA to achieve it. We've had 6 miles out of them. Nothing's changed & most current new sets come out of the box doing 2.7W & most won't go above 3.6W. Oh yes, something has changed; I can't see most current sets lasting much beyond 7 years. Richard, G0OJF, UK

I can't see why anyone would want to buy one of these things instead of a normal CB, a bit too much of a gimmick for my liking
