To store the binder clips in the base , I super glued some strong magnets in the space between the feet. Works great.

This is awesome. Thanks so much. Question - if you are doing a 1/2" frame on a smaller than 12 x 12 piece, couldn't you just slide the paper (in your case, 10 x 10) down toward the bottom an inch or so, and then mark both ends with the binder clips? I know you won't have the top edge to align the paper with, but there are other horizontal lines you could use to line up on.
