Love this! I have 3C hair and had locs established in October via interlocking. My loctitian is sisterlock trained but they aren't sisterlocks, but I think she used the method but just bigger since I was going for more traditional thickness. My hair is fine and and the base is really smooth. But they have taken to locs really well, I'm at month three and they are shrinking and getting thicker. They went from being what looked like a few strands thickness to maybe half the diameter of a pencil now. My hair person was skeptical but it has really surprised her how well my hair has taken to it

Gal, your sisterlocks/microlocs, look absolutely fab, love them the 1st time and love them the 2nd time! Why? You live outside the box doing what other black people are afraid of doing. You got sisterlocks, you had issue, you undid them, you permed your hair, then install sisterlock/microloc again, and look FAB!!!! Love love it!!!See what you are doing, telling others to experiment, do you, it's only hair, it grows back!!! I have my sisterlocks, didn't like the initial look/parting mainly on my front hairline, learnt how it's done on You Tube and split all my locs. 3 yrs into it, I still remove some locs that dont look right on my front hairline and make it look right or the locs where I part my hair, I remove those locs in that particular area and split them and make them look right according to me. I try to maintain my grid but the grid is not of use to me like it seems to others, all my styles dont require finely defined lines, it looses some elegance in my opinion because I have no need to show my scalp. The front middle part, and side parts have to be on fleek though, why? there are conservative styles with parts that need those clear lines (I never corn roll so I don't need the lines). Point is, you do your heart's desire with your hair whenever you want because you can, you have showed others that. I have sisterlocks too, I cut, coloured, permed (to achieve a certian look), flat ironed, braided my locs, wore a wig, wore head wraps...why not!....whenever... because I and you can! People since when did black people shyed away from experimenting, for looking the way we want to look...I feel like when I was my hair, do the necessary hair maintenance, my hair goes back so I can so the next thing. Please live alittle, you only have one life! Natural hair doesn't mean you stop experimenting, do whatever you want...as long as you do maintain your hair basics, retightening (which I do myself and it costs me $0.00), maintain your hair health 100%...be healthy (requirement whether you have natural hair or otherwise)...shampoo, condition, moisture, have fun with this versatile hair...even black folk can't tell if my hair is real or fake depending on how it's done up. Locs can be fun, don't be so afraid!

Her hair is so long and beautiful. One caution is her head is going to grew as she gets older. I’m sure your training prepared you for how to address it. I installed micro locs on my daughter when she was 8 and her head has gotten so big, (she’s now 12) so her locs started having babies. 😆 I had to begin splitting some over the years, but they are beautiful. You have really committed to this for your daughter. Go momma!!!

I have 3C hair. My first set of locs, I had 76 locs, they locked pretty fast, under 3-4 months, I started them with twist but I had them interlocked about 1-2 weeks in due to the unraveling. This set of locs, I started with braids, I have about 200, I think the key to locking faster is water, I washed both sets within the first 3 days. I spray with water almost daily. My current locs are a little over a month and budding already. I also wash my hair at minimum once weekly but I work out 6 days a week so I have to. I also spray with salt and water mix. So 3C hair can loc fast. Just an fyi.

I started my first set of micro locs with about 8 inches of braids and interlocked the new growth. That was a MUCH better start for me than starting with mini twists I did this time. It took about 9 months for the twists to loc enough and not unravel. The braids were great because they will bunch more uniformly and may in a way that’s conducive for locking. My hair (coily 4c) locked one a way that the braided ends looked locked from far away but I could relatively easily unravel them for years.

The gaps between the stater locs is why I always choose two strand twist. It’s not too tight and it allows the loose strands to migrate in the gaps and for budding to happen quicker. Her hair looks great. I know it will be a long process but I think you should braid the ends. Or keep the ends combed out for effect you said you liked. I watched a video and the person combs the end to keep the loose so they won’t loc

That is absolutely my theory.. I always braided my hair in single braids and wet the same day so that my braids can shrink and curl on the ends.. I just installed my braid starter locs 1 and a half month ago using that same experience.. I however have wet mines quite a few times over the first month so they can shrink and curl.. Now I'm starting my monthly maintenance.. My hairs does grow faster in the back.. So I tighten my back twice compared to the front I tighten once a month..

When you explained about why the braidlocs take so long to loc and said that if you braid the hair stretched then wash it it will shrink and have gaps in the braid so it would loosen that's actually a smart Idea i would of never thought about it like that because I know when it comes to braidlocs it takes alot of patience for the braid pattern to go away. That was one of the reasons on why I didn't want to start my locs with braids because of that reason.

Congratulations on becoming a SL trainee. Man you took on a difficult challenge, I commend you. My hair is pretty soft, so I get it. Since she’s so young I’d probably keep her hair in corn rows or plaits as much as I could to help keep it still until the locking process takes in. Took about 6 months for me to notice the change. 4.5 years in I still braid and band. I don’t like the fat ends either and I noticed early on if I was lazy about that part that’s exactly would happen. I still have some curly ends. Good luck on your baby’s journey

Brilliant theory and her hair is so beautiful! I understand the frustrations with unraveling, your idea will work great! My hair is seriously a beast of it's own but when I started locks on long hair with finger coils I combated unraveling with interlocking just in the early stages as I really just wanted to freeform. I never had to deal with thicker ends though and found that even after 5 years and little manipulation I had many curly ends. I think it might be much simpler to avoid thicker ends with your daughters type of hair and perhaps just regular finger coiling of the ends might do the trick? Hope that helps and that you find a way to avoid 450 tiny braids!

I have silky slippery 3b/c hair that i started with braids on mid back length stretched hair 2 years ago. Mine are not sisterlocks, more like small traditional (200+). I noticed that on parts that are a bit coarser (3c+?) like at crown of the head, the braids converted 50%, in areas a bit smoother 3a/b like the temples and nape, the braids never converted. Unfortunately in 95% of them, there developed a bump/bulge/lump at the meeting point of the interlocked new growth and the braid. I practiced gentle banding to wash the first year, so I'm thinking the braid was too tight, but loose braids would have perpetually unravelled. IDK. Plan is to let the interlocked growth grow long enough and then cut the braids off. Ironically, i don't regret and wouldn't do it differently, my length gives my plenty of styling options until I am ready to cut and I do NOT have the patience to interlock tip to root, braids were very easy to start with. I love your inquisitive approach to hair, relaxed and microlocked at the same time, who knew?! Gorgeous hair both yours and your daughter's!

So I blew out my hair to install my braidlocs. I changed to twists later because it wasn't locking, but I left one braidloc to see what would happen, and 16 months later, it still looks pristine. It has the gaps that you were referring to, but it just didn't frizz up or anything, it just looks like a wavy braid. I haven't braided and banded since about the third month in, and I wash weekly. I even tried brushing it a few times to see what would happen (nothing). This is in the 4a section of my hair, so pretty loosely curled. Meanwhile, the back of my hair (4bc), started locking within 2 months, so I never changed that section either. I just don't think braidlocs are the answer for looser textures.

Yes! Your theory is right! I am a 4b-c and I started my locks with blown out hair. My loctician rodded the ends to make them look decent bc she started them halfway down the loc. 😣 I didn’t think it would ever look good. I did not was them but when I got in the shower the steam got to them and they coiled right up and they looked cute.

Hi Bindi, Thank you for posting this video. I just found your channel today and subscribed. I too am a sisterlock trainee. I just took the class in October 2019. I am currently in the process of sisterlocking my Mother's hair. Which is why I took the class. I am writing to let you know I appreciate you making the video because I too have 3c hair and I wanted to know how sisterlocks will work with my hair type. So I will be following your daughters journey. In addition I checked out a couple more of your videos. I watched the washing with water only and the one about can I call my microlocks, sisterlocks. First I thought you too had sisterlocks until I saw how you retightened them, then I realized you did not. Either way your microlocks are beautiful and your daughters hair is beautiful too. However, I wish you would have included in the video a picture of your daughters hair before the locks, when it is wet and a curly style like you did in your water only video. Because her sisterlocks looks like she might have 3b hair which is even more loose than the 3c. Or perhaps she has low density. Or maybe it just looks like its very loose curls because it is freshly locked and you added conditioner, I'm not sure. Would you say your daughters texture is like your loose natural hair or does she have bigger looser curls? The reason I mentioned her hair type because I saw the picture of your hair on the water only video and I would consider your hair 3c. I would say my curl pattern is exactly like your loose natural curl pattern. Nevertheless, I love both of your locs and now I have the faith and encouragement that if I get sisterlocks, it will look beautiful too. So thank you for posting these videos, I am so glad I found your channel. I looking forward to following both of your journeys. Jobina Lugrand jlugrand30@gmail.com P. S. My KZbin channel is J. J.Lugrand Art Hi there and thank you for commenting. In the water only washing video, what you saw was my hair in a braid out. My natural hair is very coily 4a Afro. My daughter’s hair is unique from my own in that it is a much looser curl pattern. Not loose enough to be wavy, not tight enough to be like mine. Her hair type is 3c. Good luck with your mother’s establishment!

TechBizShea it’s been washed 6 or 7 times already, believe it or not, and they’ve held up very well.

Funny enough my hair is 4c but it is more kinky straight/coily with fine individual strands so it doesn't loc easier at all. I really thought it would too but my experience was a disaster. I had so much slippage and it never matured😩. I think people with 4a 4b hair who have a curl pattern in spirals or ringlets have the best loc experience.

Love your theory ! I am going to try the blow out and braid method on my hair 💛 my hair unraveled with all other methods except crotchet, which in the end had budding on top of the crotchet (not a good look for me)
