In a wish to educate myself, I’ve been purchasing and reading all the old classics like Shakespeare, Aristotle, Solzhenitsyn, CS Lewis, CS Lewis, Huxley etc. Maximizing my library means purchasing very old copies of these books. I wish I had book binding materials. Your video on protecting just jackets has been so helpful; thank you so much.

I wish! No matter what I do it won't hold and edge! And unlike woodworking tools, the older it gets the duller it gets. DAS

I have never bound a book before, but watching your videos makes me believe it is possible. Would you please do a video on the equipment needed as well as a wishlist of equipment for use when we have more experience. Thank you

Great move with using a piece of paper to measure the spine, that is a very helpful thing to observe.
@DASBookbinding4 жыл бұрын
A very common trick in bookbinding. Some bookbinders use a strip of paper to measure just about everything. That way you don't misread a ruler or forget the measurement. It's a personal style you develop. I use a ruler a lot. DAS

One thing that I really pay attention to is your work flow. How you perform the work itself.

Yes I love watching other binders for the same reason. My workflow does get a bit messed up for the video, but I try and fix that in editing. All the best, DAS

Very clever! You must show how you sharpen that thin blade. Or have I missed that?

Given how often you let things dry overnight, how many projects do you work on simultaneously?
@DASBookbinding3 жыл бұрын
Way too many! I think I have about 10 things on my work-in-progress shelf at present. If I'm doing 6 of the same thing I will plan it so I finish the day with a leave over night step. DAS

Im having a problem with my waster paper tearing while i try to curve the spine. Any thoughts? did I not let it soak enough? Also when it comes cutting the tabs I am afraid the tabs i cut, are too small. I did leave a bevel but the bevel is the width of 3 mms. I found that its best to cut into the middle than cut out
@DASBookbinding4 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear you are having a problem. With regards to the paper tearing, do you mean while making the spring? If so, this is fairly common. At the end of one video I show a heap of my failed springs. Maybe try another paper. I don;t think it's because the board is not wet enough. But you could try rolling the board up first then putting the paper on it. I have done this in the past. Do you use the little strips of board either side of the spring when rolling it up. These make a huge difference. Small tabs are fine. But you do need enough space to do the turn-ins. If this doesn't make sense, have a look at the visitors book at the 7:30 mark kzbin.info/www/bejne/fH6UqXtro652i5o Good idea to cut from the middle out. Please let me know if you're still having problems. You can send photos to darryn@dasbookbinding.com Good luck! DAS
