Lindsay was a gentleman, we met at a party where I had had too much to drink. He took care of me when I became ill and made sure I got safely home. I know the year as we had snow which was uncommon. 1962

I was (guess I still am, although not as much) a huge Old Hollywood buff. I recall reading in many biographies of the actors/actresses of that time how Bing Crosby was very difficult to be around. He was extremely aloof, cold, standoffish, had no close friends, kept everyone at arm's distance and everything about him was superficial. He never got close or warm with anyone. This was a common assessment of him in the many different books I had read over the years.

They have no idea what it's like to be poor or middle class! Normal everyday people! They turn to drugs & alcohol! It's all a difficult thing! Only ruined after the round I was interviewed at length by Bing as to Nats golfing ability as to his ambition to become a golf professional! Would he be good enough or would he be an embarrassment? I was none committed and made my excuses and left the club house. He died that week! I shed no tears!

Fathers who take out their issues on their kids- especially their sons- has always been a common problem. People just didn't talk about it. My father was a very harsh disciplinarian and we were all afraid of him, but my oldest brother got the worst of it. He is a gentle and kind man in his old age and was always a highly-regarded member of the community, but he had little patience for his own children.

I knew Phil Crosby during the 1960s. He was a sweet, funny, and considerate guy. Alcoholic, of course, and the last time I saw him he was laid out on a pool table somewhere in Los Angeles. Nevertheless, he deserved a much better father than he had. Phil had a good tenor voice and sang in a variety of venues in the San Francisco Bay Area. I always wished he had had a better family life. Even with a great sense of humor, there was a sadness in him that was palpable.
