“Lesson number one, never attack in anger” - Don Diego de la Vega I really adore how Love’s defeat was partly due to him not grasping this teaching. Him and Love were practically even while they were battling, and even when Love made the comment about his brother, Zorro was obliviously pushed by it but it didn’t blind him. however in the case of Love, the longer the battle went on the more impatient he became, causing anger and frustration. While Zorro was clearly the better swordsman Love’s rage left the perfect opportunity for him to counter. 1:25

Of all the fencing duels--including the finest in the Star Wars movies--the ending of the Zorro-Love duel where he flips the sword over the beam and right through the villain, then showing his face as a final taunt, ranks quite highly on my list. If ever I had one that is.

Zorro is one of the inspitations for the character alongside other pulp characters like The Shadow, the creators of The Shadow felt that Batman was nothing more than a cheap imitation of their character and much later when Batman was already an established and successful character there was a crossover in which Batman acknowledges being inspired by The Shadow in a similar fashion as he does in that Gray Ghost episode of the Batman animated series of the 90s.

It's funny because we wouldn't have heroes without Zorro. Yes, Batman was inspired by Zorro, but Zorro started the whole superhero comic books. Zorro created the whole secret identity. So basically Zorro was years ahead of its time before we got the MCU or DC Extended Universe. You got to give credit to Zorro for starting the superhero genre.

To be fair, I don't think fencing is all that high on the West Point curriculum. Now if Alejandro beat him in a full scale battle involving tactics I'd agree with you
@westenicho
@westenicho 2 жыл бұрын
@@SportsSpeak73 Fencing was high on the curriculum of Cadets in the 19th century, although by this point it was more focused on sabres for practical purposes as many officers were on horseback. However, the best officers led infantry, and leading men with a drawn sword in an advance meant that inevitable hand to hand combat was done with bayonet and sword, you could expect that proficiency with a sword was not only practical, but required training. This is a scene from a movie, and it is more choreographed art than war, but you can guarantee that a West Point Cadet would've been proficient with the sword to a certain degree. The sport of fencing is really more of a 19th century phenomenon, made popular by duels in Napoleonic Europe. We see that trend continue, and probably peaked in the late 19th century. General Patton was trained and [supposedly] mastered the sword. You also see this commonly in German nobility with their "Mensur scars", a right of passage for their young men in the military service. Many Nazi officers had Mensur Scars, adding to their reputation. While it's a thing of the past now, in the mid-19th century it was assuredly trained to proficiency.
@19TheFallen
@19TheFallen 11 ай бұрын
A little bit of trivia on that matter: Antonio Banderas was trained in fencing and sword fighting for three months. His trainer, Bob Anderson, said that Antonio Banderas was a prodigy, and was one of the most skilled swordsmen he'd seen in his career. Keep in mind that Bob Anderson was a skilled swordsman himself, with a LONG career in that art, and a man who was involved in training MANY people to fight with the sword. (Just a few of the films he was brought in to train the actors I'm going to mention are _The Princess Bride, Star Wars, The Three Musketeers_ (1993 version), _Highlander, The Lord of the Rings_ (Peter Jackson trilogy), _Pirates of the Caribbean,_ and part of _The Hobbit_ trilogy (he passed away during production.) One thing that was noted about him by those who worked with him was that he was an utter perfectionist. If he didn't feel you could hack it with a sword, he didn't waste his time with you, so if *he* said that Antonio Banderas was one of the most skilled swordsmen he'd worked with and trained, you better believe it given his career! So, knowing this......Knowing that, in real world terms, if Bob Anderson took Antonio Banderas and turned him from a noob swordsman to a skilled one in three months, it's not that unbelievable that someone with Diego's skills could take Alejandro and do the same if he had that same, latent, prodigious talent and skill inside him, but needed a proper teacher to bring it out, within that same space of time.....

To Everyone out there who has not seen the old Zorro movie. These are the words the captain said to Zorro before he die at the end of the old Zorro movie. Now bandit, one of us must die. Zorro said well, then, let it be the moment of truth. Zorro, Take off his mask. The captain said It's you, your Excellency.

A good thing they didn't use real Black Powder. After the first keg exploded, the dense smoke would obscure everything. All the secondary blasts would have just made the smoke-cloud bigger, not even any fire-balls! It's a great scene, made better by 'cheating'!
