When I was a teenager I found a calf stuck in a mud just like that, but being a calf I was able to pull it out myself. More recently a duck hunter got stuck like that and we tried to dig him out but his feet were stuck with a suction in the Salton Sea mud. He finally got out but only by pulling his feet out of his waders. His waders are still there today.

There is one episode in the Tom Brown 'Tracker' accounts where he and his buddy got stuck in similar circumstances and discovered the way to release the suction was to insert a stick, arm, or something down along the side of the leg at the foot and then slowly pull. It allowed air to go down and release the suction. Personally I don't want to try it though. But as an experiment ... think and try. It might be fun for the right mindset. Tom and his buddy were training under an Apache medicine man who had felt it a personal mission to get as much of the Indian lore collected as possible and pour it into these boys. He did an amazing job and spent around 10 years educating them from the ground up. The books are there to read. So now are the schools that spawned off his knowledge.

Unpopular opinion but if a rancher leaves his cattle out roaming without checking daily I believe they should be charged with criminal negligence and animal abuse. You own it. Take care of it. Otherwise straight to jail.
