Biochar has been used for thousands of years. It can be traced back to the Amazon basin, which has some of the most carbon-rich soils on earth. Biochar has a great potential to help Namibia adapt to climate change. It can be used to improve soil quality as well as animal health. Although this product is relatively new to the Namibian market, it fills a unique niche because it is made from encroacher bush biomass, thereby providing a sustainable solution to bush encroachment. This video provides an overview of biochar production and application in Namibia.
The video was produced in collaboration with the Namibia Charcoal Association, Prime Biochar, Farm Krumhuk, and Onghalulu Farmers' Cooperative through the GIZ Farming for Resilience project and funded by the GIZ Bush Control and Biomass Utilisation project.
