An update in 2021 would be great. I hope they have been able to scale up production of the biofuel. Ingenious to take a problem weed and turn it into a eco friendly fuel to reduce emissions and reduce the need for firewood which leads to deforestation.

this is awesome ..the government has spent so much money trying to get rid of the hyacinth..maybe they could support this high school teacher who clearly knows how to turn this crisis into profit..hence preserving lake victoria and the fishermens lively hood.

Another viable option is to feed the chopped up water haycinth into biogas plants. The methane produced is a valuable bio fuel while the expelled sludge is a valuable bio fertilizer.

There is serious money to me made here developing turnkey operations for use around the world. An amazingly talented man. And it is bio friendly also and because it is not a fossil fuel it is not polluting.

Wow! This is so good to curb the issue of global warming and also water weeds. The only issue is that it will "Kill the economy" because of the oil cartels. I wish the process to be commercialized. It will save a lot of money.

The impression intended to be given by stating that the combustion of paraffin produces 8 times more carbon than this biofuel is that the biofuel produces 8 times less atmospheric carbon. In fact paraffin combustion produces significant amounts of particulate carbon (soot) when burned in this way. As to the relative amounts of carbon dioxide (greenhouse gas) produced, he makes no reference.

with petrol and diesel prices unstable Kenya could scale this up and secure domestic energy security to a certain degree at least? there are "total flex" engines already in production that can run on E100 i.e pure ethanol w/o the need to blend with petrol! Scania has a compression ignition aka diesel engine that runs on a fuel called ED95 which is 95% ethanol and 5% ignition improver....

Imagine if the government would offer incentives, that would encourage some Rich tycoons to invest in this ethanol production, instead of using 100 million to build a big flat which would only employ , 5 people, A caretaker, two cleaners and two Watchmen one for day the other for night. 100 million employing 5 people is a loss in a developing country like kenya. 100 million invested in a project like this would employ, thousands directly and indirectly.
