@@gostavoadolfos2023 that's was very understanable from what you wrote. Some simple answers could be that the resources from the coast properly weren't sufficient. Technology, africans have been mining since "pre historic" times, so it may have been a preference/familiarity to mining, that could have been the reason. At some points the emperors also owned some of the salt mines in Northern West Africa. So the trade could have been for diplomatic reasons. Moreover, notice that i said arguably because there are many people alike who are also credited with being the richest/wealthiest person in the world as we can't really adjust for inflation and the purchasing power/ value of resources of their time and our time. @ I think OP means that African history itself is important, not this one small (and you're dead right, unimportant and easily disputed) aspect of it. Aside from the benefits to Africans living there today to be able to chart their own pre-colonial history. For a lot of people of African descent, who's link to their lineage and history were lost when they were sold and scattered, it's arguably very important to know that they even have a history beyond that of slavery. Let alone how grand a history that is. I think it's fairly important to those of us raised in the Western cultures too. For those who've grown up only knowing Africa as an impoverished continent, it's important to understand what attracted the invaders there in the first place. Else people continue believing the 'we went to bring them to God and clothe them decently, purely as an act of kindness' propaganda. We went to take what they had, much of Europe's inherited wealth has its beginnings in the organised gang-rape of Africa.
@sizah1854 жыл бұрын

@CaptTerrific4 жыл бұрын
@@DontreadPimpBoy Indeed - but by the time you go THIS far back in history, let alone trying to compare across spans of hundreds of years between them all, measuring absolute wealth becomes somewhat meaningless. However, given one of the simplest ways to do such a comparison is simply to compare how much of total world wealth was controlled by a single person at that point in time, Musa is believed to be #1. Arguably, given improvements in productivity, how much you get per dollar, and the wonders of modern technology, Bezos (or Putin or one of those others speculated to be wealthier) is the richest person to ever live. Even though he could buy a lot less gold, he'd get a lot more for the gold equivalents he does control :)
4 жыл бұрын
@@DontreadPimpBoy there really isn't a way that we can know that, for multiple reasons. First, romans had sestercis as their currency and we DO NOT know how that currency compared to other currencies at the time let alone transfer it and compare it to today's dollar as we do with the rest of the world's currencies. Moreover, what was the purchasing power? Inflation? We all know that 500 dollars 50 years ago had more purchasing power than 500 dollars today. So, someone like Marcus Crassus who is credited to had been the richest man in Rome was reported to be worth 200 million sestercis. How much is that in today's dollars? we don't know. So how can we truly know that he was actually the richest man in Rome? We can't. It's all speculation. The same with Musa.

When you are so damned rich a personal retail therapy trip triggers hyperinflation (because you have a significant % of all printed money so the Fed prints more so others can have some, which backfires after the tidal wave of cash you've held back is released), causes a global recession, and makes the Federal Reserve reduce interest rates to 0% for the next 10 years as a result. Probably a multi-trillionaire could do it if they wanted to play an expensive practical joke on the world and had a sick sense of humor (likely, you have to be a psychopath to be CEO).

Such is life at the top of the pyramid. Others have to be a ruthless psycho for the simple reason they are the ones that started the company and wouldn't stay in business long enough to be in the Fortune 500 if they weren't, the more money involved the more competitive it is.

Mansa Kankan Musa - The Richest African Warrior Musa I was the tenth Mansa (sultan or king) of Mali. His reign was between 1312 and 1337 AD. He was an extremely powerful leader and under his leadership Mali was able to conquer 24 cities. He had a great deal of nick names and titles, including the ‘Lion of Mali’ and ‘Conqueror of Ghanata’. One of his nicknames, ‘Lord of the Mines of Wangara’, was due to the fact he was in control of all the gold mines there. This contributed to the fact he was exceptionally rich - his contemporaries described him as “inconceivably wealthy”. Both Time and the BBC have commented on his wealth from a modern view point, with the latter declaring him THE RICHEST MAN OF ALL TIME This European is babbling false notions
