FUN FACT: While George Washington Carver did not invent peanut butter, he did create his own recipe of it. He refused to patent it, however, because he felt like someone could do it better and improve on his methods. That's Carver's humility for you.

Moses and Susan Carver made sure George had education and the run of their home. Peanuts came from Peru first and peanut butter. But George did find many ingenious uses for peanuts. Crop rotation came to the USA from Britain colonist. George was an exceedingly intelligent man and worked to continue learning always. George and his brother did not want to stay with their mother. Moses and Susan were so nice.

@Beryllahawk
@Beryllahawk 4 жыл бұрын
I first learned about this amazing man back in grade school, because there was an entire special school dedicated to a specific sort of "field trip" - our class spent an entire day there, and it was the most fun day of school I can remember - and that's saying a lot since I adored school even at the worst of times. The notion of the school (I think) was to show other ways of teaching kids than "sit down, be quiet, memorize." Every single class was hands-on in some way or other. We learned about mirrors, then made our own kaleidoscopes - learned about English culture (a very small amount) and while the teacher talked we ate snacks inspired by or directly drawn from English recipes. That kind of stuff. And throughout all of it we kept hearing about how Carver wanted every person to do the best they could with what they had - a paraphrase of his motivations, perhaps, but a useful one. There was no failing any of the projects or classes, there was no sharp criticism of one's work, there was a consistent and pervasive attitude that promoted creative thinking and just...just generally made us kids feel like we COULD do any damned thing we felt like doing in life. That was a first for a lot of us. I feel like that special school was very much keeping alive what Carver would've wanted.
