Chandragupta Maurya also known to the Greeks as Sandrakottos was the founder of the Maurya Empire in ancient India.
He is credited with bringing together the small fragmented kingdoms of the country and combining them into a single large empire.
During his reign, the Maurya Empire stretched from Bengal and Assam in the East, to Afghanistan and Baluchistan in the West, to Kashmir and Nepal in the North and to the Deccan Plateau in the South.

Some says Ashok actually didn't win war against Kalinga . Kalinga and ashok both had a great loss of army but ashok army didn't have enough food and soldiers so in order to hide his failure he declared peace . {Note : who was King of Kalinga during that time is still unknown but as far I know from teachers that even princesses and women also joined the battle after the death of their brothers and husband .}

चन्द्रगुप्त मोर्य का जन्म पाटलिपुत्र में नहीं बल्कि गांधार (आज का कंधार) में हुआ था। वह तक्षशिला विश्वविधालय से युद्धशास्त्र से स्नातक था।सिकन्दर जब हार कर वापस लौट गया था, उसके बाद ग्रीकों ने जो हवेलिया गांधार(कंधार) में बनवाई थी उसका खण्डहर आज भी कंधार में देखी जा सकती है।चन्द्रगुप्त के समय दो ही धर्म प्रचलित था--जैन और बौद्ध धर्म।वह जैनधर्मावलम्बी था। उस समय हिन्दु धर्म का प्रादुभाव नहीं हुआ था। 9वीं सदी में नित्य और अनित्य को लेकर एक धार्मिक क्रांति हुआ था।बुद्ध नित्य अर्थात सनातन नहीं है।नित्य की उपासना होनी चाहिए।उसी धार्मिक क्रांति के बाद सनातन धर्म (हिन्दू)रुप में आयी।
