The information you gave here was good, but I actually clicked on this video looking for an explanation on the reaction process involved in turning nitrogen gas into ammonium. Thanks anyway.

Do you know what a heterocyst would look like in a hollow sphere colony of cyanobacteria? Technically how large could they get? Could one be grown?

Did heterocysts come into existence because of nitrogen-depletion of Precambrian ocean?please anybody should help me with the answer if u know

actually heterocyst are cells which when in anaerobic condition nitrogenase enzyme become in active due to oxygen they mainly activates the nitrogenase by providing anaerobic invironment

Akinetes are a separate cell type possible in filamentous Cyanobacteria that are not covered in this video. More info here:. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akinete

So heterocysts aren't themselves living cells but can only fix nitrogen and communicate with the "living" cells , then why do we still call them unicellular (for they are unable to perform all functions alone). moreover can we say heterocysts are "living" ??
@BiologyProfessor
@BiologyProfessor 2 жыл бұрын
I think heterocysts are definitely alive. They are just highly specialized.

Ma'am, do heterocysts too help in reproduction?
@meetmahakdixit7363
@meetmahakdixit7363 2 жыл бұрын
yaa they are a kind of archaic reproductive cells because they secrete certain substance which stimulates cell division
