This is the only review channel that I start off with before seeing what everyone else says, I know you’re going to point out flaws unlike most of the others who fawn over games with their ‘need to get into the publisher good list’ goggles (especially reviewers reviewing Nintendo (if the game name has a Z ending with ‘elda’, they all bust their nuts) and certain Sony first party games recently (aka the ones with agendas))

I have now watched some other reviews of this game and I am shocked although I should not be really, but if you are a reviewer and you are totally unable to identify a game that is clearly made for kids or casual evenings where you just don't want any kind of challenge then you should not really be in the gaming industry. Some are saying how the game sucks because the combat is to easy and the narration is childish or does not match the subject. LOL Honestly this game does not even hide the fact that it's for kids, you just need to listen to the first few lines of dialog to see who it's aimed at. People are actually scoring this game based on the fact that as a open world RPG, thats like me going to a toy shop and buying a babys first laptop and comparing it to a Dell gaming laptop. It's not meant to be Dark souls or Far cry, it's a cute game about cute animals with totally simple combat, puzzles and story filled with morals and teaching you right from wrong, it's ideal for kids or adults that want a casual stress free exploration around a big open world. People are totally ignorant these days, so sad. Also on a totally unrelated subject someone in the comments just pointed out to me that the narrator is NOT the guy from Stanley Parable, I was 100% certain it was, so much so that I never even checked, I would have lost everything I own on a bet that it was, it's uncanny that they sound totally identical.

I think you really hit the nail on the head in your review when you mentioned that most games these days are too hard and/or too depraved for younger players. I grew up with video games in the 90s, with bright colourful action platformers and point and click adventure games, and they had the same charm and atmosphere that this game has, and they still hold up as fun casual experiences I enjoy going back to today. I'm really pleased that this game is along those lines because I was dreading a 'hardcore' furry dark souls. Thank you keeping your perspective open and being an honest reviewer. I don't always share your opinions, but I certainly trust them and appreciate the hard work you put in.

I personally disagree. Games for kids back in the 90s to early 00s were packed with a shit ton more charm, effort and character. Look at early Nintendo, Crash Bandicoot ect. Nothing wrong with a game being for kids, but that doesn't excuse it for being blander than a slice of 50/50.

Like he said we don't get these kind of games very often but I'd rather save my money and buy Rift Apart when it comes out and grab this on sale later on.

Hands down this is the best review of the game I've seen because it's balanced. It's actually made me realise how far some reviewers have their heads up their bum and can't see past their own preferences. Very impressed with this review and is an example of why Mack is a top tier reviewer.

Why did the developer compare it to Asassins Creed, BOTW and DMC? I am so surprised at the pass this game got here. The sound in this game has been described as some of the worst ever. It’s just a giant fetch quest game with no voiceovers. If Activision made this game, he would absolutely slate it and the argument about this team being small, well Outer Wilds and Valheim have smaller teams

No one is saying this game is all of a sudden amazing because it's shortcomings can be ignored when a teenager plays it. All I'm saying is the shortcomings for this game are just not as important for the younger game market, just like some of the games I used to play when I was young. They also had shortcomings if you critically look at them, but they were still good fun and enjoyable.

Good review, this does appeal to me as I like casual gaming sessions where I just clear a few icons on a map in 15 minutes or half an hour. I love Ubisoft games and currently doing the same thing with Days Gone using an interactive gaming map. This playing style isn't for everyone, but I'm not bothered about sinking hours at a time into a game and completing it within the first week. I currently have 256 hours in AC: Valhalla and finished Witcher 3 with 247 hours. I appreciate the fact that whilst Mack doesn't really like this himself, he recognises this game for what it is and who it may appeal to...

Surely if we learned anything from Cyberpunk it's that people SHOULD wait until the reviews and perspectives and not give in to the emotion of pre release hype. If people wish to base their decisions to purchase based on the average reviewers thoughts then that should be encouraged over blinding pre ordering or release day purchases on titles that really didn't deserve it.

Fortnite looks like candy 🤷‍♂️ I mean, just look at the fallout franchise. Went from drab, opressive almost horror look in 3 to nice and sunny colorfull apocalypse in 4 then to the over saturated-make you puke- look of fallout 76. Imo Biomutant is also WAY to saturated. Like, you can have color without it looking like this. I’m guessing it’s because everybody is jumping on the HDR and it’s ”new and shiny” still so they go overboard. That’s my two cents atleast.

Sounds fun and not punishing like some games are. Last thing i want after 14hour shift of seeing patients is to have a frustrating game that resets you to the start after 2 hours for a minor error. It looks relaxing and like a game you can drop in and drop out without feeling guilty.

Finally an honest, thought out, review for this game. It looks exactly like you stated at the end. Good for my kids and also I'll probably play it when I need a break from some harder games. This reminds me of immortals Fenix rising for some reason.... And I really enjoyed that game a ton. I wish the world has more puzzles though that mattered.... It's sad they are so basic here. Why even have them just make it an activate instead of a puzzle

Yeh Mack. I have watched three reviews including yours and came to the same conclusion as you, great for teens. The other reviewers seemed to miss the point calling it shallow and easy. Not all games are Dark Souls or Zelda, there is a space between and you are right; games in that space are a rarity these days. Insightful review, cheers. 👍😊

Picked this game up for £36 from cd keys using my points on there aswell to get it down to that price and I have to say I love this game and the narrator is like a story book he's reading to you, interesting game and unique, don't see many like that these days

My kids' steam libraries are full of games. Plus Fortnite, Roblox, Minecraft. They rarely even turn on the Switch or Playstation. I think Mack has failed his normal level of scrutiny and glanced over the serious flaws of this game by passing it off as a kids game.

For me, the disappointment is valid because of its starting price. It puts the game in a bracket that's unrealistic for itself - punching wayyy above its weightclass. That sets different expectations on what type of open world game it should be, and what degree of open world elements it should offer within its gameplay and world. And many of those elements appear to be missing. (and it gets super expensive in some regions, like 100AUD or 87SGD) If the game was like 35 bucks across regions it wouldn't get this much flak. Probably even more praise and expectations about the next game for doing more than expected for its price.

I've been interested in this game for years and I'm so happy to see a new ip do well that is unlike anything out there. I thought it was going to be a slightly more mature experience from the original trailers, but I will be picking this up, great review Mack!

I failed at several of the puzzles because I don't pay attention to which direction I need to turn them nor am I even looking at how many turns I have. With that being said, I haven't even touched the story yet and I've simply been running around the world challenging random mobs. I've made it to level 8 and explored almost the entirety of the lower map. I have only just started doing the tribe war and so we shall see how that goes. All in all, it's pretty decent for a passion project of a new, small studio and this is said from someone that's laughing at the idiocy of their beliefs on industrialization made perfectly clear throughout the story.

If the map allows you to go everywhere, it would make sense that there would be an abundance of stuff, and at some point you would stop yourself. Otherwise, the loot/gear would force you down a specific route. Tbh it looks like a fun game, and i think ima still pick this up.

kevan brighting is the stanley parable narrator who wasn't in this game, it was david shaw parker who was lohner in vermintide among other games and movies that probably matter more to other people, funnily enough he was in the muppet christmas carol

Well done once again master Mack. I was so on the edge with this as I adore the Borderlands games, and of course the weapon-scape was identical. The combat looked similar and the whole cartoony thing was similar. However, I will definitely give it a miss at full price. On a sale it may be a fun 'drunken laid back cruise' type game one day. Also I am so glad you have the insight to see it as a perfect 'younger generation game'. Spot on. I watched all other reviewers diss the game shamelessly forgetting that if you review 'The Flintstones movie' as a bad adults documentary, you probably had no clue it was for the kids, who do deserve a good time.

So my take from this is it has the story choices and outcomes of Bioware games, UI styled similar to Fortnite, crafting system similar to How To Survive, and voice acting similar to Stanley Parable using a guy who sounds almost identical. So a mix mash of successful games just however instead of keeping the difficulty of those it took those popular styles and made it at a difficulty anyone of any age could play and enjoy to experience. Good that the most popular systems in games are now more easily accessible, not my cup of tea I do not think at least but can see the appeal to people that fit that bill.
