The opening was iconic it was very feminine and very 70s which is what the show was steve had that horrible accident that no man shouldve survive so the opening fits the six million dollar man perfectly very dramatic and masculine if not macho, wonderwoman was a amazon and she came from strong women plus was a true superhero and the hulk his dr bruce banners anger begets the hulk very fitting jaime was a human woman with bionics so the 70s music was very feminine and fitting for her character.

The Bionic Woman is a most iconic show, even looking back. As a child, I worshipped her, as an adult, I so very much respect every single thing Lindsay Wagner does! Even in it's cringe moments, you have to realize the time period it was shot in. I think the most problematic issue is that every man cast on that show's character appeared to be in love with Jaime. She kissed every man on the mouth, the issue with her Dr. Michael was just reportable, except it was all top secret. Oscar called her "Babe" all the time. They had her in outfits with no bra on constantly. She was absolutely stunning, but that was too much. She also told everyone, it seemed about her bionics. It is interesting that, even in it's infancy, these shows were foretelling history. I leave this on at night to sleep, as I did when I was 8- it is on the ROKU channel, in full. It is a shame it was cancelled.

I agree, Jamie's interactions with her male co-workers would be an HR nightmare today. And what kind of secret agent keeps telling everyone she's bionic, or uses her real name when undercover? But I do appreciate this show a lot - and I appreciate your comment!

I was 6-7 years old when The Six Million Dollar Man aired in Australia, maybe a little older because it sometimes took a year or two to arrive here. One of my earliest memories is of being in the living room when it started. The intro was sooo good- “Steve Austin, a man barely alive…” etc. I was totally hooked and it was a major influence on both my love of sci-fi and science in general, leading me to be a straight A’s student. We need more shows like this these days to inspire our kids.

There are a lot of similar storylines between The Bionic Woman and Wonder Woman. They both have: the star go undercover as a beauty pageant contestant and sing as their talent, both hung from underneath a flying helicopter, both fought robots, both fought doubles of themselves, and both mentor a young Native American boy to find themselves.

I watched both The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman last year in their entirety. Surprisingly The Bionic Woman holds up much better than its parent show. Wagner is the better actor of the two and the lighthearted humor makes the show easier to watch than countless episodes involving spies that tend to run together. I'm not I'm a hurry to rewatch it anytime soon, but could see me watching this again over The Six Million Dollar Man. This year I did get to meet Lindsey at a comic con. To be honest, I was a little disappointed. She smiled and I guess nice enough but wasn't really engaging when I tried to talk with her. It felt like a more hurry up and get the picture we paid for and move along (There really was just 2 people in line behind us when we met her). Maybe because of her age and it possible that she does not hear well enough to interact good in a noisy environment.

You're short documentary was solid. I'm a child of the 70s and will watch just about anything 70s related and I have to admit your video was well done without all the 'bells and whistles' of today's technology. I thoroughly enjoyed something simple and that to me was the beauty of this work. 5:08 is a perfect example of your humour. The jump from the previous cut and music to the theme from the tv serires 'Soap' made me laugh - solid 💯!

I loved these shows!! I'm handicap with a brittle bone disease and my childhood was hard as I was always breaking my bones and I would always ask my doctors if bionics were a option but we know the outcome but watched this everytime I could and recorded a bunch of episodes on VHS and they helped me through some hard times but I sadly lost my VCR and tapes in a flood but hopefully someday I'll get these shows on blu-ray one day. For me TV and movies have been what's helped me the most.

I'm glad you watched the review! Looks like both series are now available on Blu-ray, though I'm told there are some sound issues on both owing to the fact that the original master recordings no longer exist. Guess ABC treated its shows the same way the BBC did... I sympathize with you about losing your tapes as I lost a huge amount of mine during Hurricane Katrina. Thank goodness all of this stuff is available online and fairly cheaply to buy as well, though! Stay tuned!

To me, I thought the opening was perfect and the music is SO iconic! But I can see where you're coming from. I thought it combines the softness of her personality, told the story of her tragic accident, and promoted her winsome heroism. But as Lindsay Wagner gained more production power, she ruined it with all the "woke" themes of their day (new age-ism, mysticism, native American stuff, or silly minor stories with cheap production values. I found it interesting how her rejection of Steve caused an unintended effect of making him look impotent as a superhero. He was constantly being squeezed out, made like a allergy, a pariah to this beautiful heroine. - so that even with all his shirt unbuttoning, his character looked increasingly more pitiful, confused, reject. Nice video commentary. You made me laugh many times.

Jamie didn't have a mean streak either. She didn't have a war face like Austin. She didn't have a warrior stance like Wonder Woman. She didn't have an all consuming rage with The Incredible Hulk. Throughout the series, Lindsay Wagner lobbied that the Bionic Woman would not kill anyone, deeply wound anyone, become hostile. She used her bionic strength as a last resort. She often found herself talking the bad guys out of it instead of whooping them with her super powers.

Lindsay Wagner or Catherine Schell (Maya, Space:1999) would have been a better choice for Capt. Janeway. Kate Mulgrew was the singular factor why that show didn't take off. She just didn't have the charisma or acting chops to anchor a show. ST Voyager was fortunate to have added Jeri Ryan as 7 of 9 to what was then a good-as-cancelled show.

WOW! I was a big fan of both shows while a kid back in the 70's, but, had forgotten that the introduction of 'The Bionic Woman' concluded with her death by the end of the episode. Why? It seems like the episode should've been the setup for a spinoff to the popular 'The Six Million Dollar Man' series from the beginning , but they killed her off instead. The only explanation that I can think of is, that the movie "Love Story" was a box office bonanza in 1971, and the producers of "SMDM" wanted a short term ratings success with a sci-fi version of "Love Story", that included bionic limbs.

Also the fact that the principal asks her out on a date right at the tail end of her job interview and he knows she just announced her engagement weeks prior! I loved the opening of the Bionic Woman, the theme song written by Jerry Fielding. Jamie was NOT...a grim military man and astronaut like Steve Austin with training and conditioning to help him accept his new bionic powers and move into doing cloak and dagger missions....also to fight and die for his country. Jamie was NOT....an artificial life form Amazon Warrior like Wonder Woman, with a fighting and justice tradition. She was just a regular girl who found one day that she had super powers because of boyfriend Steve Austin. Never trained for it. Had no former occupation to help her segue' to having super powers and conducting dangerous missions for the government. I like the duality of the theme that baited you into believing she was a super hero.....then int denoued into this ballad....about a frail gentle vulnerable soul.....just a girl teaching school to her children...the sensitive side.... then right at the end....the music becomes foreboding....reminding you.....that she has a gentle vulnerable side....contending with this superpower and dangerous government mission she never expected.....having to embrace her super hero future.

I like the beginning of the intro, a great driving beat but when it goes legato its just not that interesting. I would recognize it anywhere but, eh. I think the reason they often put a beauty contest or event in the shows was just to put the characters in gowns and all hair and make up to the max. I have to admit I like rewatching the fashion and hair of the day. Its just nice to look at.

Sometimes this show would feature several famous guest stars but not give them anything fun to do. The episode "Black Magic" is a prime example-- we have familiar film and TV actors Vincent Price, Julie Newmar, and Hermione Baddeley (yes, *three* _Batman_ villains from the 1966 series, as some of you Gen X people like myself may recall), but sadly due to lame writing they aren't really given anything fun or meaty to do ... besides Price doing a very brief dual role in the story's beginning. The entire show feels just like so much _Scooby Doo, Where Are You_ circa 1969, and a dud. Imagine what might've been. Lindsay Wagner was always solid. She can be seen before this series in small roles on TV, like the nurse in a _Night Gallery_ episode (I believe it's "The Diary" featuring Patty Duke Astin and Virginia Mayo). Wagner was probably bound to get her own show; it just took the right person to see that potential and charisma. She also did TV movies back in the day, like _The Two Worlds of Jenny Logan_ (forgive me if that's not the exact title or spelling) in which a married woman finds an old dress in her new house and once she tries it on she is transported back to another period where she can cheat on her husband. Okay, that's only part of the story, LOL. Oh, and during the 80s she starred in an adaptation of a Judith Krantz novel called _Scruples_ which was a sudsy TV miniseries featuring scandal, romance, money, and the world of fashion. I grew up when this series was aired, and it was enjoyable for the most part. I liked seeing John Houseman and other distinguished guests, and the two Lisa Galloway doppelganger stories were a favorite part of _The Bionic Woman_ ... the painfully broad and cartoony Southern accent aside. ;-)

And then you woke up with these bionic super powers bestowed on you by the government because your boyfriend was secretly a bionic super hero. Then you were told by the government that in return for the about $6 million....princely sum they invested in you.....also saving your life, you were supposed to conduct life and death missions for the government. What would you do?????

Season 1 made a lot of effort to establish Jaime’s caring and tenderness. I think it was a good investment. A great deal of character development in a short season. I’m pretty sure Fly Jaime was the first episode I saw (it might have been The Jailing of Jaime) and I like this ep. Another 70s trope-the plane crash ep. Romero gets away with his sexism because he’s so deluded and out of Jaime’s league, the attitude isn’t threatening or even annoying. It’s funny. And she enlists his help in season 2, and the poor guy can’t get that right. He’s a harmless schlemiel. I’m also cool with The Ghosthunter. Telekinesis isn’t out of the realm of possibility so I don’t think it genre jumps the way Big Foot does. And Kristy McNichol was a great tv actress. I thought this was a pretty exciting episode and a good season closer. Claws was annoying-I’m not a big animal person, but I am a teacher and I can tell you that you do not keep your job if you bring lions to school. But this ep did help establish an important Jaime trait-kindness to animals, so it’s an important ep. I’d say season 1 is the second best. Thanks for your detailed review! Glad I found it!

Now THAT could have been interesting! But yeah, Jamie was always "meant" to be with Steve, so much so that the reunion movies are all about their on-again off-again relationship until they finally tie the knot. That's likely why the new series decided to skip the Steve part entirely - as well as any narrative coherence, sense, or interesting plots...

Smashing review as always emperordalek! A show from the 70s that comes to mind, and one that I used to watch with my folks during my childhood is Little House on the Prarie. Oh and could you review season 1 of The Littlest Hobo as well? Also, the second animated Fantastic Four came to mind, especially with the Kirby the robot...

Thanks for the feedback! I have to admit, I have never watched or even heard of THE LITTLEST HOBO, but LITTLE HOUSE is definitely on my radar. And after I get through with THE BIONIC WOMAN, I'm going to be reviewing more animated shows, so the FF series, which is near and dear to my heart, is now on that list!

@@emperordalek Oh it's no prob! The Littlest Hobo from 1979 is actually a remake of a 1960s sitcom about a vagabond German shepherd who travels from town to town to save the day. It's pretty much a Canadian version of Lassie. I haven't seen the 60s version, though the remake is another show from my childhood I used to watch with my folks and is a fave of mine. It's first season is notable for guest starring a young Leslie Nielson, John Caridine, Barry Morse, and Vic Morrow! Little House on the Prairie, now that feels close to home as I do hail from Canada. And FF 1978, my favourite episode is probably when the FF freed Blastar the living bombburst!

@@CosmoShidan I'll take a look, but that is a LOT of episodes! Luckily, there seems to be only one season in the '70s, so that might be more manageable. Someone has also requested COLUMBO, and I may be retirement age before I get through all of those!

@@emperordalek That's exactly why I chose the first season! Thankfully, it's the only one from the 70s, so that saves the rest from scrutiny! lol.

I'd agree with you having now seen the last episode of Season 3 and wondering what they'd done if they'd preserved the "fugitive Jamie" angle, but...well, let's just say I'm putting together the script for the Season 3 review, and there are probably good reasons for having canceled it when they did (Lindsay Wagner's wanting to leave being the foremost). Thanks for watching!

@@emperordalek They could have definitely done with better scriptwriters as well. Some of the alien stuff was silly. And I believe there are a few feature length episodes that tie up her relationship with Steve Austin. I will need to track those down.

@@simonfilmfan4899 Yes, those come in the 90s, and they're...well, they tie things up, let's just say. It's a pity the sci-fi episodes aren't nearly as good, as those were among the best on WONDER WOMAN.

@@simonfilmfan4899Hollywood doesn’t ever seem to know how to write kid’s shows, which was the target audience. They always treat kids like they’re stupid and don’t know anything, while the kids themselves roll there eyes at the stupidity sometimes.

I enjoyed the snark of this review. But come on.. the dislike of the classroom stories..you must be a jaded teacher. I found the writing to be stronger and tighter than the Six Million Dollar Man and I agree- Lindsey carried the show. The classroom setting in the earlier episodes grounded the show and was a obvious attempt to appeal to kids. I liked the duality of her character and her teacher identity reinforced the idea that she was new to agent work. I completely agree with your must see list. However, I enjoyed Fly Jamie and I found Bobby with her Mrs. Olsen braid to be a hout. I didn't see the Steve Austin version but I'm almost sure it was inferior. While the second season had more dazzle, the first season was all soul.

That's okay! Sorry you feel that way, but it's right there on the tin: we're looking at the show we loved as kids to see if they hold up, so looking at them through today's standards, ridiculous though they may be, is exactly the point.
