I remember when my mama first bought these chips back in the early '70s. My brother Jerry could hardly wait to get back home and pour them on the table like they do in this commercial. My mama screamed, "Put them damn chips back in the container before I throw 'em away!

I always wanted to pour them into a bowl to see if they did indeed have as many chips as a big bag.

Ha! Moms in those days didn't mess around. They had too much to do to put up with shenanigans. Ha! Always threatening to throw something away. 😀

@@baconbap Pringles has the same amount of chips as a large bag. The commercial makes Pringles appear to have more chips by meticulously placing them in a bowl.

This was filmed in 1968 when Pringles were first introduced. They continued to use the commercials into the early 70's. Written, produced and directed by Thomas Scott Cadden at Tatham-Laird & Kudner.

Pringles weren't sold where I lived until 1975, that's when I first saw this commercial and another one with Emmaline Henry (Amanda Bellows on I Dream of Jeannie). I haven't seen that one since 1976.

The potato chip industry believed they were "fake chips', too- because Pringles are fashioned from dehydrated, dried potatoes, and not sliced and "chipped", as "real potatoes" are. They wanted Procter & Gamble to eliminate the word "potato chips" from the Pringles cans. And the Food and Drug Administration agreed. In a landmark 1975 ruling, they informed P&G that after 1977, they could no longer be identified as "potato chips". So, they became "potato crisps" instead.

Does anyone know the actor at 0:08, 0:18 and 0:31? He was in many commercials in the 1970s including ones for Safeway and Totinos. I've been trying to find out his name for years with no luck.

@@BionicDisco Yep, I know who they are. That guy I'm wondering about used to do a lot of commercials from about the late 60s to the early '80s. In the early 70s, he was in a series of commercials for Safeway and later in the decade for Totinos Pizza with actress Kit Smythe. She called him "John" in one of the ads, that may be his actual first name. He may have also done some TV acting, but I'm not sure about that.
