I remember when my mama first bought these chips back in the early '70s. My brother Jerry could hardly wait to get back home and pour them on the table like they do in this commercial. My mama screamed, "Put them damn chips back in the container before I throw 'em away!

The potato chip industry believed they were "fake chips', too- because Pringles are fashioned from dehydrated, dried potatoes, and not sliced and "chipped", as "real potatoes" are. They wanted Procter & Gamble to eliminate the word "potato chips" from the Pringles cans. And the Food and Drug Administration agreed. In a landmark 1975 ruling, they informed P&G that after 1977, they could no longer be identified as "potato chips". So, they became "potato crisps" instead.

@@BionicDisco Yep, I know who they are. That guy I'm wondering about used to do a lot of commercials from about the late 60s to the early '80s. In the early 70s, he was in a series of commercials for Safeway and later in the decade for Totinos Pizza with actress Kit Smythe. She called him "John" in one of the ads, that may be his actual first name. He may have also done some TV acting, but I'm not sure about that.
