As young black people back in the 1970's, these cultural reggae sound system classics warned us of many things that have now come to pass...tribal war, famine, environmental disasters, corruption in high and low places, African roots and culture...this was part of our moral and cultural guide and compas in the 1970's and early 1980's...to remind us of who we are and what we should aspire to..integrity..peace love unity and strength.

[25 May 2023] "Daniel saw the stone/Rolling down to Babylon..." (As Lee "Scratch" Perry once sang, working on the same theme as Prince Alla was working on here). Prince Alla's "Stone" is one of the greatest - one of the sheerly *heaviest* - roots reggae tracks I've heard in many a moon. If I didn't know better, I'd say the sound - those thunderclaps! That organ! And those *DRUMS* ! - was so heavy I'd have to call it a *GOTHIC* sound. But I know "Gothic" can't be le mot juste for something so ital - so roots, so Rasta, so purely Jamaican - as this.

Ho!! my days, i have been looking for this song for the last 40 yrs .....just remembering the words and rhythm but did not know the name .....heard first in the Settlement boys club South East London Peckham ....it was a truly spiritual moment for me ....they played a dub plate to this ....i could feel the vibration of my feet right to the top of my head ....the drumming sounded so realistic like i was in a real battle .....i know it sound weird, but this tune took me to a distant place ...i never forgot that experience ....as they say experience teaches wisdom ....i would like to think i am a wiser man for that experience.....thank you for this upload you have made a middle aged man very happy ....

The rumble that can be heard in the song, simulates the rocks that fall to destroy Rome. King tubby got themp from a thunder taken from a movie, widened it and put it on two traks!!! Ingenious

@Procharmo4 жыл бұрын
@@devogrant2817 It had an even more pronounced effect on me. I was about 13 - 14 when i first heard it...I built a sound system by the end of the year and hired a driver as I was too young to drive. At 15yrs I was playing bass guitar in Settlement club Peckham . Nearly got stabbed up because I was dropping some B Line.. I think it was Moulding by IJahMan that kicked it off. Hope that wasn't you???

@@Procharmo Thanks for sharing your experience ....and no it was not me ...I was not a follower of any particular sound ...and i still live in Peckham ...I am, and was a qiuate man ...I liked my reggae music ...but not all the rivalry ....and tribal territorialism that came with it .

*To mash down the image. It's a reference to the book of Daniel when Nebuchadnezzar had a dream of a huge rock smashing the feet of a huge image of a king.
