the idea of forgiveness is supposed to be for yourself to be able to let go. not for them to feel better about themselves.
@SabrinaRina Жыл бұрын
True. I think it would be better to say "I'm going to forget you, you aren't worth a further thought". Because it's the suffering holding onto the pain and anger. But pure "I forgive, I love you" does alleviate too many criminals on THEIR end.
@TheReluctantVlogger Жыл бұрын
Yes. Honestly, I truly believe that forgiveness is only so important because otherwise the hate would eat you alive. Personally, if I could get revenge without being imprisoned for it, I’d say f*ck forgiveness and get them back my way. Since that’s not possible, forgiveness is second best.

I don't understand the obsession with forgiveness, especially with a crime like this, and if that was my dad I'd be pissed. Especially with the "I love you" crap, who the hell says that to their daughter's murderer? What did he hope to accomplish by saying these things to him? The killer is not going to feel remorseful, if anything its just going to make him feel better about himself. It also gives vibes of absolving him of his crimes. Like, the synonyms for "forgive" are literally pardon, absolve, let off, etc.

Forgiveness is for the person hurt, that they’re okay and won’t be hurt by them anymore. It can be helpful to him, but I agree, I feel like it’s weird here. There was a story who was kidnapped by a guy who killed her entire family. She convinced him to let her go, and eventually came to him during his trial and told him he forgave her. But she didn’t “love” him. She later was happy to find he died in jail since he wouldn’t be a risk to someone else. But considering the mental state of the guy who did such a terrible crime, maybe she also felt sorry for him and wanted him to know that in a way, someone cared and he wasn’t completely alone. It really depends on the situation. This one is….not warranted I think?

I asked my religious church Going mom, and she said as long as someone asks for forgiveness, that’s all they need to do. This is how most Baptist church teach their followers. It’s insane. I hated all the churches I went to growing up because I couldn’t grasp what the point of living like Christ when all you need to do is just ask for forgiveness and it’s just willingly given, yet they have such an issue with how people live their lives…
@charko41912 жыл бұрын
@@TheGuardianssorrow Hmm well forgiveness of a person and of God are two different things I am Catholic and these matters are not taken lightly Just like confession isn't only confessing your sins as isn't accepting and giving forgiveness Religion after all at least catholic as far as I know is not disconnected from reality... People need common sense as well. Well about the issue of how people live their lives Catholics are not meant to judge we can acknowledge sins but above all, we can't be hypocrites and first focus on bettering ourselves. Well asking for forgiveness is not always all there is You gotta work to make amends and fix your mistakes dug that is one of the things required at confession. Forgiveness is a noble thing often need not only for the person receiving it but also for the one giving it as far as I am aware it is all up to that person If he or she accepts it or not at least That father got the piece for himself in that way but Punimshmet for crimes is always neded I have o idea If you mum meant that forgiveness is all there is to it and punishment is not needed but that would be absurd... The whole point of Christianity is asking for receiving and accepting forgiveness from God to be able to live in a holy way on earth and then be accepted to heaven after. I said too much sorry If I came across as overbearing. uhh, That is one huge paragraph.

You wanna talk about crazy religious people? My husband’s abusive father will go to prisons to pray with death row inmates, child predators, and so on, tell them they’re “forgiven and loved” and that they’ll go to Heaven now, but my husband having moved away from the mega-church style religion, as well as happily being with a pagan, is just unforgivable. He cut him and the step-mother (who is a whole other bag of nuts) out, but it’s still the fact that somehow his happiness makes him worse than people who have done truly awful shit, according to his father.

Just to comment about your response to music being removed and defunded in schools. I don’t get it either. Our school had a huge band, and we even got to March at Disney and we invited to the Rose parade, which we weren’t able to take the offer because there’s a minimum of people needed, but other schools in my state didn’t want to join us. Yet it’s now only about 30-50 people from 7th grade to seniors. It barely gets the chance to go anywhere now, yet all the money went into the sports teams. HOWEVER, the sports teams even mentioned how the school started defunding our band and how they were disappointed. We were the only ones going to cheer them on when they went out of town. Parents barely joined them. No cheerleaders. Only the team and coaches and the band. It made such an impact on them and they thanked us every time for being there to cheer them on. They don’t care about support the sports teams. They just don’t want to fund the music programs. It hurts both music and sport kids.

I think judging people for showing forgiveness is an L take to have. Somebody deciding to forgive the person that hurt them is an extremely mature move, because holding onto that anger and hate rots a person from the inside. In my honest opinion, being able to let go and wishing the aggressor the best is a power move, as it shows them that they have no power over you. For most, forgiveness for something like this would take decades if ever. But this man was able to look the demon that killed his daughter in the eye and say "I forgive you. I love you." Not because he's crazy. But because he's Powerful.

Forgiveness is something very few could do to someone who as taken everything from you, I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. But ultimately it’s the correct thing to do, revenge just destroys you completely… You shouldn’t have to throw your own life away also, you’ve already paid enough at that point. So that’s why the most honorable ppl forgive, not an easy thing to do honestly. If it were me I’d want the world to burn tbh.

Atheists have such a weird definition of forgiveness. Forgiving someone isn't absolving them of their crimes. It's more for the victim/relative of the victim to finally be able to slowly move past the trauma and live your life without constantly thinking of the crimes committed against you/your relative. In cases such as this, it's probably the hardest thing for the victim to do. The "I love you" is a bit weird, I'll admit. But it's still not absolving this disgusting man for his crimes, but more of a prayer that he becomes disgusted with himself. Because everyone deserves honest self reflection
