Caitlin, there are a couple of things that really stand out in your video. First is your husband's proactive approach towards urging you to get that lesion checked out. Second is your message to viewers to get checked out. Third is the attitude of your doctor that he learned a lesson from your experience and committed to do better by his patients. And fourth, you didn't overdramatize the experience but put this out as a PSA. Respect!

Good for you and your husband for being proactive with your health! I also was just diagnosed with BCC and go for another biopsy June 7th. Mine is on my left trapezius. It’s so interesting to me that your surface layer is okay and the BCC is under healthy skin. Mine was more of a reddish mole, but I don’t have specifics like they gave you. It’s my understanding that BCC is not hereditary, but that Melanoma is. It is also very dangerous. Yes, as a RN I know it’s very important to get annual checks and sometimes I delay. Won’t be doing that anymore. Make sure that they examine your scalp, ears, bottom of your feet during your full exam. Also, DO NOT wear nail polish to your exam. They will want to examine your nails for anything unusual. We are both going to be okay!❤️🙏🏻

Hi Caitlin, first of all, thank you for filming and posting this video. I know someone right now who has a spot 4x the size of yours who only believes in holistic medicine and refuses to get it checked, and I feel so helpless for them. I've been watching you since you packed up to move to Japan and feel like I know you. Please know we all care for you and are praying for a successful surgery and that you can put this behind you. You will help many people by sharing this experience and I wanted to let you know that, even though this was probably difficult to film, you should be proud. Thank you. ❤️

Make that appointment. Don’t play games with your health. A family friend of mine waited too long for a diagnosis for his SCC. He ended up requiring plastic surgery on his face and is now permanently disfigured. Get a full scan exam once per year and don’t even think about rolling the dice.

So after I saw your post on tiktok, I went and had a spot looked at at the dermatologist, and that spot they told me that was just a spot of skin that I had maybe scratched over and over and now it is a scar. but then they did a full body look-over for me since I have TONS OF Freckles and MOLES and then they removed 3 moles by shaving them off and one was on my foot which really hurts to walk on now, and this week I should have the results of what they were. Hopefully everything will be ok. Thank you for making this video to inform us all because it is important for sure.

I am so glad that your husband caught this at this very early stage! I am Japanese, but my husband is not and has fair skin. Thank you for making this video, this is a great reminder for everyone to regularly check oneself and loved ones. You might already know this, but I took a nursing class for general ed credits when I was in college and the professor said there are the following 5 signs of skin cancer, called "ABCDE Rule" that you need to look for: A for Asymmetry B for Border (the outer edges are uneven) C for Color (dark black or have multiple colors) D for Diameter (greater than 6mm) E for Evolving (change in size, shape or color)

So glad you pushed for the biopsy! I hope the removal process is super easy and quick for you. I just went to the dermatologist 3 weeks ago for “peace of mind” over an abnormal shaped mole - it was normal. I’ve gotten like 4 biopsies over the years - thankfully all have come back normal. But always a good reminder to get that annual exam! Thank you for sharing with us as always.
You’ll be fine. Your brother is correct. Glad you caught it early! That’s the most important thing.
@alibutterfly822 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you got it checked and caught so early - that should mean they'll be able to remove it fully before anything would spread. It's scary though, having a "brush with mortality" like this when you still consider yourself relatively young. Based on when you said you graduated high school, I was probably about the same age as you when I had 2 DVT blood clots a few years apart, got tested for genetic blood clotting risks at the urging of my doctor, and found out I am positive for that. With that first blood clot though... I was terrified; I thought I was going to die. It's really a hard thing to deal with, mentally, when we have our first "serious adult health scares" like that. All I can tell you is that since it was caught so early and you seem to be otherwise healthy, my belief is that this will pass, and I admire your positive attitude about it (even though you may have been putting on a braver face for the camera than you truly feel inside). Sending you positive vibes.

Your husband deserves a Hubby of the Year award. I'm so glad he persisted and I'm glad you opted for the biopsy. I'm also glad the Dr was candid about lack of experience with Caucasian skin. It was a young woman on TikTok who was diagnosed with Stage 4 skin cancer and ended up passing away last year that prompted me to make an appt for a screening at age 45. Her first Dr told her it was fine, years later she went to another Dr and it wasn't fine. It was aggressive and ravaged her body. She documented all of it and it broke my heart. I don't have anything going on on my skin of note, but I am single and don't have the benefit of someone else seeing things I might not. Now, I have a derma that I have an established relationship with and that can monitor any changes or new things for me yearly. That peace of mind is so important, imo. It's really worth it. Thank you for sharing this. I hope your future surgery goes well and they are able to banish those Bccs from your body. ❤️

Caitlin, I'm so glad you got it checked out - and thank you for spreading awareness. We're the same age and two years ago, I had what I thought was a "pimple" on my face that wasn't healing. I went to the dermatologist just to be safe and was shocked to find out I also had a BCC. I had the Mohrs procedure and now get a skin check every 6 months. My dermatologist insisted I switch from a chemical sunscreen to a mineral/physical one (i.e. Zinc-based) for the best protection. I love Supergroup's Mineral Sheer Screen, but I'm interested to see what Japan has to offer! Best wishes to you and quick healing.

It's very difficult to spot it if it's on your back and people don't seem to remark/comment on it or even understand what they're looking at! the same thing happened to my good friend. he was working out with his shirt off when i saw a brown spot on his back. I didn't know what it was but made a remark and told him to go in for a consult. when the doctor saw it, he immediately took a huge chunk out for biopsy. it came back as carcinoma stage 1A. he had to ut out a bigger portion out after as a precaution. he is in the clear now but will need regular checkups annually. if it's spotted and treated early, it's preventative and should not be ignord! It is good that you caught it early, and you can deal with it now. Don't be too hard on yourself for not taking care of your skin; take your past experience as a learning opportunity to do better. I had BCC on my forehead, just above my left eye. I was given two choices: 1) Mohs surgery - appointment in the morning and done in the afternoon. One and done. Caveat: one-inch scar right above the eye. Or 2) SRT - caveat: 20 treatments over a 6-week time period. Advantages over Mohs: no incisions or scars. I went with SRT and am so glad I did. Zero evidence that I had BCC - no marks or discolorations, etc. Just certified cancer-free after five years. My take: BCC in an inconspicuous area - go with Mohs. In and out in one day. Who cares about a scar, when it can’t be seen? Facial BCC: SRT is the only way to fly.

These types of cancers are very common in older people. But they do need to be dealt with. My elderly mother had a few removed over the years. But one developed on her face below her eye and it actually did become painful over time and she suffered for a while before getting it looked at. Don’t be upset when you get it removed. The scar might look bad at the beginning but by a year mark, they usually heal up very nice and not noticeable at all. Just the scar looks very red at the beginning and fades to white over time. Make sure you are very very careful with sunscreen on the scar too! Scars don’t heal well if they get sun exposure.

the scary skin cancer that we're all so apprehensive of is actually a Melanoma. A BCC is fairly, fairly common and very slow-growing and even though it's technically a cancer but it's one that does not metastasise! So it should be all good! all the best!

Last year I had a little lump on my face checked and was told it was an age spot. 6 months later I had another spot checked and it was nothing but I had the first spot checked again and was told it was a BCC. I was so lucky because I am one of those people with a BCC which has micronodules that go sideways and the surgeon actually got the whole cancer out in one go. So glad you got it diagnosed early. Good video to make others aware. 😀
