So they were like a Prototype of the candidates for a Big Daddy? The Big Daddies lore is that they were prisoners or war criminals, once they transformed in a Big Daddy, all the organs were attached to the suit, making it unremovable. The suit became their own prison, their obligation was protect the Little Sisters, and their suffering was Rapture. Only the Alpha Series were the only once that could take of the suit, so maybe they take a part of this design.

If I remember, the Fireman's original form was going to be similar to Jack the Ripper. Not so much a Cosmonaut. Similar designs where in place with the Crows. Both where part of an idea called Vigor Junkies, who where citizens addicted to Vigors who had their bodies display the Vigor they preferred the most. Firemen looked like a devil in a trenchcoat, the Crow looked like a cheesed off Charles and there was a crystal Shock Jock that may have inspired the electric design of Cornelius Slate.

I kind of like the contrast between the Fireman and The Fury from MGS3. From what I remember, The Fury just ran on fury and flames alone, so it was really hard to feel sympathetic towards him. Meanwhile, the Fireman has hintings of pain and a sense of not really wanting to do this, and so makes him more relateable. I'm glad the developers decided not to go with a copycat costume and instead chose to make a new outfit rather than make another Russian cosmonaut who shoots fire.

If you have the Winter Shield gear (it gives you a brief period of invincibility whenever you jump on or off of a hook or skyline) they become ridiculously easy, since every Handyman is fought in areas with hooks or skylines. Really helpful on 1999 Mode, never got touched by them.

It is shocking how few people use Vigors in Infinite. These guys and the Krow Klux Klan fellas and that's it. You'd think more people would want the widely-commercially-available ability to possess machines or have psychokinesis. I mean you could make the argument that they hurt-- I mean Firemen seem to be in pain-- but Booker nor the Crow guys seem to be and even then you'd think more zealous soldiers would still be given powers be it against their will or not.

Well... Both Zealot of the Lady (crow guys) and Firemen (Devil's Kiss) both have little choice in using them really. I mean, they ARE stuck in an ever burning metal suit. According to citizens of Columbia they aren't used by the masses due to 'bugs' that have yet to be worked out by Fink. Said bugs are the byproducts/symptoms of using Vigors are easily seen in the cutscenes when you first drink the Vigors. Needless to say a normal person can't easily handle that... Also according to the wiki there were going to be 'Vigor Junkies' in game that had large red crystals (or purple crystals) growing out of parts of their bodies. But it was scraped and reduced to the 'Heavy Hitters'. c:

They where never confirmed to be Plasmids. Fink took the basic formula, but Suchong also stole some of Fink's discoveries. Vigors could never be plasmids because there was never any ADAM slugs in Columbia. A recurring theory with fans is that coolant from the "leash" may be the ingredient used to make salts, and possibly plasmids as well.

I'm pretty sure it was mentioned vigors are simply plasmids with an oxidizing agent so they'd become drinkable. Old man winter is clearly refered to as a plasmid. It does leave the trouble that there are no adam slugs in Columbia. I wondered if Fink wasn't simply stealing Adam from different Raptures or maby even the plasmids themselves and then simply mixed them with the oxidizing agent. Or maby that coolant has the same properties as adam. Still, that doesn't take away that those enemies could be a type of splicer (since it's still through a form of splicing).

All it said was that Fink stole the idea or "intellectual property" as Suchong referred to it from Rapture. Never anything about ADAM or plasmids. They are the equivalent of Plasmids in Columbia, but saying they're Splicers or ADAM etc. Is paramount to saying that a Motorized Patriot is a Rosie or a Handyman in a Rumbler. The oxidizing aspect was an idea stolen from Fink and applied to the more hybrid Plasmids at Burial at Sea. Vigor Addicts can theoretically be considered more dangerous than standard Splicers. Vigors can turn a human to dust. Only Winter Blast can fully destroy someone. ( Old Man Winter was going to be a Vigor. Winter Blast is the Plasmid, but I guess it could be considered a Vigor that was stolen and sold in Rapture instead.)
