This comment was here for seven years and no one has ever replied to it. What are the odds. This lonely expression of humanty in the never ending stream of noise and clutter. Somehow left uncorrupted by the hollow cynics who deal only in irony and meaningless jest. Like a rose that grows in a graveyard amongst colorful flowers of plastic. One should not dare to pluck it... BUT WOMBLE IS A F****T!

this was the one part in this game that really hit home with me, the pure happiness of Elizbeth running around the Boardwalk, then you realize that the song is there for a reason, because they created a time rift and were stealing songs from other dimensions, it really tied it all together and I was blown away. This was one of those moments that solidified this game as one of my favorites of all time.

Of course, this song plays when Elizabeth is having fun on the beach, but actually that's what makes it really sad. I mean, after you played through the game once and then heard this cover of the song again you'll get super sad because you know her happiness is just temporary. Because after that she'll have to go through terrible, terrible things. This song reminds me of Elizabeth basically being a victim. She was truly good-hearted, but the evil reality destroyed her. And then there come the two DLCs, where in the end she dies as a hero. It's just really really sad.

Something about the Bioshock series that just feels, in a weird way, academic. I guess what I mean is when you see books in the science fiction genre you have a plethora of seminal artists who's work as become "classic literature". If a type of genre were to exist for gaming, especially retroactively looking back, then Bioshock 1 and Infinite would definitely be the classic literature of gaming. EDIT: Absolutely should mention Ken Levine. If anything because he would be the Writer to go with my analogy and is the driving force, in my opinion, of the System Shock and Bioshock titles.

Oh that was absolutely the intention. In a series of interviews they did for Bioshock: The Collection Ken Levine said that the games did have some weighty "academic" themes but they were trying to make it appeal to a more general audience. I think they found the sweet spot between deep philosophical stuff and a fun and engaging story.
@Alex-cw3rz2 жыл бұрын
Well you are correct in terms of being more academic Bioshock 1 is a critique of Objectivism, the Bioshock 2 Ken Levine didn't write on so it's critique is exceptionally muddled and in the 3rd it's an exploration of racism and the start of American exceptionalism. All three explore player choice, with the first two were you decide your fate and the third commenting on the fact that even deciding your fate in video games is completely curated you bascially have no options and little free will.

Had the strangest moment on this part of the game. I was fully immersed in the level. Taking my time looking at all the little details. Getting invested at her joy with the world. But something was off. Something tugging at my brain - pulling me out of the moment. Kind of unsettling like when you realise you're dreaming just before you wake up. It was this song! My brain had recognised it before I'd realised. It's nostalgia from the tune but re-contextualised. Created a dissonance that really freaked me out. It's not just a little joke. It really fits with the themes of the game.

I remember walking around battleship bay hearing this and thinking that the developers made a huge mistake when putting this into the game as this song was realised many many years after 1912 but then I found out about the whole Albert Finks brother looking into tears around the city hearing music and performing them In Colombia as his own such as God only knows and of cause this

This was a holy shit moment for me, walking past the calliope at Battleship Bay. I knew what year it was in-game, and I was a 90s kid, so this song was still all over the radio when I was a kid. I heard this song, and it legitimately made me stop and say... 'what the f**k, is that...?' and listen to confirm. And it was the first tipoff to me that there was some crazy stuff going on in Columbia. I missed 'God Only Knows' by the Beach Boys at the beginning simply because they were before my time, but 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' did NOT escape my notice.
