3:00 'how can you have a boss fight with a guy in a jar?' well, you did it in bioshock 2, lol.

system shock 2 and deus ex are more of an rpg then a shooter! bioshock is easily on of the deepest shooters of all time story wise, gameplay wise, and immersion wise that is why bioshock is one of the greatest games ever made!

The way I 'think for myself' in BioShock is just to view all of the perspectives of the story, every detail and tiniest bit of information (Audiobook) en then proceed to process and form my own opinion about society. A good story should force you to think about it. I value that. I think I'll read that book! In Deus Ex I liked the choices gameplay wise, to be able to play the game how I want to. That was awesome. But how you can defend it's story by it's 'freedom' is beyond comprehension to me.

I agree with you that BioShock is in no way in-depth gameplay wise, but the storytelling is just on another level. For me, BioShock and Mass Effect are those rare games in which I actually cared about my choices. I usually don't and just do what I like or whatever, like choosing a starter in Pokémon that looks badass. In Deus Ex I couldn't care less about anyone. I didn't replay it just so I could save the rebellion leader from Navarre. Who cares? It was dull. BioShock was exciting and awesome.

BTW, for those who haven't played bioshock, it is not something for the kids to play, it's a horror set in a *art deco" 1920-30s period, underwater. It has genetically modified people whose inner being changed as well as external being, and they've gone crazy modifying their looks to become like monsters. So all the monsters are genetically mutated "innocent" people whose lives went out of control. If you've seen the TV show "firefly" it is like the "reavers" but set in the 20s.

Somehow I don't see 2K making another one of these after 2, but if they do, they should look into making one that is "co-op" with friends on-line. I'd love to play this with my friends on a Friday night, but as a multi-faceted story where each person has to solve one part of the puzzle at the same time.

@kiernanholland There's already a confirmed Bioshock 3, and it has been confirmed by 2K that there will be at least a total of 5 bioshock titles, or at least, that is their goal.

For those who haven't bought it yet, buy bioshock, play it.. Then buy bioshock 2 and play it. Bioshock 2 won't be as interesting without it. I'm playing bioshock 2 right now, and having played the first, the levels take a lot longer but are a ton easier than bioshock 1 because you get more super powers to play with, but bioshock 2 builds on the bioshock story and won't make sense unless you've played bioshock. I'd play bioshock 2 on "hard" too. "medium" is not as hard as it could be.

@kiernanholland You know as we are dealing with the catastrophe of this oil spill and such.. I can see the focus in gaming turning back to Bioshock, with the story of bio-hazards on the surface and undersea coming together.. So maybe Bioshock 3 will be on the surface in a world where the world's oceans have been contaminated with ADAM. Who knows..

No, it indeed is not. It is even better. A choice, here, does not indicate depth, as the way you put it. That is the illusion you made for yourself. The breadcrumbs in disguise you mention are actually just the choices which, in those games, mean little to none to the overall story. Aside from the ending, things you can influence like your pilot don't mean shit when compared to the main Sci-fi story. Yeah, 'active' or 'in-depth'. By the way, very mature belittling. Really supports the arguments.

Sigh. Please drop the attitude a bit. My point is not about 'being able to choose', it is about the story, period. I also did not say BioShock involved choice, I just stated that the storytelling in BioShock is better then in the games you mentioned which are apparantely very high on your pedestal. You say Deus Ex and System Shock are great because you create the story. That is true but I just wanted to say that, even though they're great games, the story itself is kind of dull.

I don't think a story has to be 'created' in order to be awesome but apparently you stick to this point. That's fine though, it's your opinion! Just wanted to say that if I read a book, even though that's a poor example, I'm also obliged to view it from the way the author intended and that
@rikzz0r11 жыл бұрын
Now you're just rehearsing your speech man. Such a shame. Also, the repeated use of the word 'spoonfed' shows me your true elitist, belittling approach. I thought we had just established, and you agreed, that a story such as a book still allows your own interpretation. Therefore, you agreed that a story such as BioShock, and I mean its dystopian part, gives food for thought. Again, I value that more then a dull sci-fi story in which I can save my pilot I didn't care about in the first place.
