Listening to the joy and energy of this young woman has instilled a great sense of hope for my 25 year old daughter who has bipolar and first became ill at age 11. She is currently under hospital care due to another psychotic episode. I truly hope she is open to considering a Ketogenic diet. Can't thank you Iain for these podcasts and for pushing for keto to become part of normal treatment.

This episode is a cracker! Your guest is so clear, inspiring and fills me with hope. It's great to hear how she went from the depths to a life that she's loving. Thank goodness for those who share information about the ketogenic diet with the world. It's been a life saver for me. Completely transformed my standard of living and allowed me to reduce my medication (with the help of my doctor and a nutritionist) by over 50%. Thanks for making these podcasts Dr. Campbell, they are invaluable 🙂

Education and awareness is key to making change. As well, make sure you have tons of support - personal and professional when you're ready to implement. I was able to put 13 year antidepressant induced dipolar disorder in to remission with keto. I had one of my first falls without suicidal depression. An absolute miracle. In all my years (17+) of being a psychiatric RN, I have never come across a more powerful intervention. What helped you cope during those years? And what is making you consider keto at this point?

I also had a sensitivity to nuts, as well as dairy, before Keto. But none of those things bother my gut anymore after being on the ketogenic diet. I am on month 6 now but I noticed those changes in month 1. I am doing the diet for bipolar but the other physical benefits have been a happy surprise in addition to the mental health relief. Thank you for posting this episode, it was excellent, and I look forward to more. ❤

Thanks to your guest for her inspiring story! I’m amazed to hear all she has gone through, and so happy to hear how well she’s doing now! I agree with Matt, I hope that any drs listening can understand how desperately these patients( and their families), need to be given the opportunity to have support and direction with the keto diet, as a way of combating these illnesses! Many thanks to all of you for doing this important podcast!!

New to this channel and starting to feel hope. I want to try keto to improve my mental and physical health. Do you have any advice on a reliable meal plan so I can just begin? What did you all eat when you got started because I hear about great results even after only a couple weeks? I’m tired of living in this “black void”, I’m alive but I have not actually been “living” for the past decade.

The ketogenic diet is a powerful lifestyle intervention, especially when it is paired with additional holistic approaches. It is a great way to improve your overall quality of life. There are many ways to approach keto, and the first thing is really to educate yourself. You'd also want to rally as much support as you can, this is not a journey you want to do alone. Do you have much support - personal or professional? What improvements are you hoping to gain from keto? I recently completed a Clinician training to support people in this journey, also have a background of being a psychiatric nurse and have implemented keto for myself. I share my journey on my channel.

Can you please tell me if there is any episode addressing keto and Borderine personality disorder?
@NeseretBemient

Such a great question. And I'm not sure what the answer is, however I know that when I implemented ketogenic diet - it had an overall improvement in many areas of my life, including my personality. I had improved energy, mood, better sleep, hormonal balance, a sense of control, I gained back mental clarity, my self respect and dignity and it felt like I was more of myself. An improved version of myself. For me, I was on multiple psychiatric medications and that felt like I was a more "subdued" version of myself and keto just took that away, and what was left was just being me. It was the best gift.

Any testimonies of those who have managed to put rapid cycling bipolar in remission with keto?
@NeseretBemient
@NeseretBemient Жыл бұрын
I have put antidepressant induced bipolar I struggled with for 13 years in to remission. Ketogenic diet impacts the brain and body, and so regardless of the diagnosis, there will likely be some benefits. All the different ailments in the brain are diagnosed with different names, but we only have one brain. The best way to is to try it, and everyone is different.

Hi Ian, thank you so much for your work. I was diagnosed with bipolar 23 years ago and have been taking meds for that long. I am symptom free but the meds caused me to be 150 pounds overweight. So I have been on the keto for 1 week and I'm already feeling better. Once it's been a month I'm going to see about weaning off my meds, would you recommend that?

Thanks for your comment! I'm very sorry to hear of the substantial weight gain, many of us have experienced this. Please do speak to your psychiatrist, they are the only one who can advise you about medications, we always mention that this is essential in the podcast. I wish you well, getting to a healthy weight can be hard but is possible and is very worth it.

@@fionen Hi MJ, my speculation is that it can work equally well at any age (ketone metabolism is remarkably well preserved even older Alzheimer's patients for example) but those who are older may need to stay on it in the long term to maintain results. Younger people may be able to return to their pre-keto diet and still experience remission - as is well documented in epilepsy patients. But I have heard of this in older people also.

@@ketobipolar I was at the Keto Live conference in Bergun last year. I sent your details to my sister in South Africa for a friend of hers who has debilitating bipolar. He has been suicidal for years and has actually tried to take his life. He had chronic pain and has a mobility scooter as he can’t stand for long periods of time. 5 days into eating keto he says his pain slightly better, his brain fog has completely lifted and he is able to read a book, which brings him peace. My sister saw him yesterday and said it’s like a light has been turned on in him. He is so, so grateful to have watched your talk with Matt B. Thank you for what you do, Dr Campbell. It’s putting the lights back on in so many lives!!
