The Gin Joints were thrilled to check out the Seattle KNKX jazz station's new studio and recorded some cuts!
Birch Pereira (bass, vocals), Park Evans (guitar), Kate Olson (sax), Adrian Van Batenburg (drums), Jenny Littlefield (vocals) and Birch himself.
"Pink Champagne" is a 1950 single by Joe Liggins and His Honeydrippers.

Excellent! Nice rendition and cool band. I do prefer the tempo of the original version by Joe Liggins & His Honey Drippers, it's a bit more uptempo and has a great swing to it. I have played harmonica for 50 years and for 10 of those years had a 7-piece primarily Swing Dance Band but we also ranged into straight ahead Jazz, Chicago Blues and R&B genres as well. Joe Liggins' back-up band "The Honey Drippers" renamed themselves after his passing as "Louis Thomas (his main tenor player) & His Pieces of Eight. They were based in Los Angeles and used to travel annually (late 1990's in early 2000's and play each year at the "Medford Jazz Jubilee" which brought about 20+ bands in from around the country on the "Trad Jazz" circuit. My band played there but I was also several years an invited guest to sit in with them.......and their Trumpet player James "Smitty" Smith (he played with Duke Ellington, Ray Charles, Count Basie) sat in with my band also. I could only find one video of them with a guest singer: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eF7bcnSabL1ojZI&ab_channel=MarguaretLove That is Louis' sone on guitar (he has played with Barry White, etc. and excellent player) and Louis on sax and Mr. Smith on Trumpet. The video does name the other players and when I knew them they had 4-5 horn player section. Excellent band and they were really nice people to meet and great to play with. Keep up your good playing, nice band.

wow really cool! We have fun and play it slow for the dancers that like that slow dirty pulse, but nothing can top the original anyhow so it's fun to do something different. We have a version of Fat's I'm Walkin that is way slower

@@TheGinJointsBand Very Understandable on the tempo. Back in the late 1990's into early 2000's in my swing band we were often catering more to the pure Lindy Hop Dancers and their tempos for Swing & Jump Blues, sometimes up to 65-70 couples at dancers. As time went on, up to now, West Coast Swing became more popular due to the more versatile styles of music it could work with......some of that being the slower deep pocket blues. We had three completely different arrangements & tempos for "Kansas City" to match up with West Coast, Lindy Hoppers or for general audiences. "Rock Me Baby" is another one that lends itself to that too. I am between San Diego and LA now so can play both areas. Again, cool band you have.
