I was in complete shock when Eric Haataja pulled a bird that hooked our line while swimming under the ice! I didn't think it was possible to catch a bird under the ice! The bird species was a Goldeneye Diver Duck #Shorts #Bird #Ice

I've caught an Otter while Gar fishing. He put up a hell of a fight. I was able to safely remove the hook and let it go which was harder and scarier than unhooking an Alligator Gar. Luckily the hook was in its hind leg.

The worst thing to catch are snapping turtles imo. They will stick themselves deep in the mud if you're not careful and its one hell of a fight until you break them free. It's also practically impossible to get the multiple barbed hook out of their mouth. Yes I'm talking about the big turtles like 20+ pounders.

@@aquabluerose7734 yeah they are a pain in the ass. They will bite your catfish bait and then swim down into the mud. You'll fight for a while and they will finally come feee. Then you'll think you were just snagged on a log since that's what they look like while you're reeling them to the surface. Most people just kill them once they reel them in by chopping their head off. So they can use the turtle for food and their shell is a popular craft item. If you ever grab one grab it by the tail

This is exactly why it’s important to be mindful of your fishing line and not to leave any line out after your done. Of course you’ll have to cut your lines in some situations, but it should be avoided as much as possible, if there’s another way to recover the line, do it. You have no idea how many animals I’ve seen and have had to assist that are caught up it or have partially swallowed fishing line: birds, fish, eels, sharks, small gators, turtles (especially snapping turtles and alligator snappers for some reason), owls, eagles, osprey, pelicans, snakes, etc. I’ve seen em all caught up in line that people have just left out or forgot about. It’s really sad, because without human assistance, if an animal is caught in it or has partially swallowed it- they will die. Sometimes these animals are endangered, and their death has a significant impact on their ability to survive as a species. I’ve seen gopher tortoises caught in like for example, but any animal can fall victim to it really. If you come across a living animal tangled in line, call a local wildlife rehab. They should be able to come out and either free the animal or recover it to be taken to a vet. And be mindful of the ecosystem when you’re out hunting or fishing or whatever you’re doing. We owe nature for everything it’s provided us.

Glad I came across this video. I’m not an ornithologist, but I love ducks. This is a common goldeneye duck. In the duck world, there’s different strategies of feeding fairly specific to each type. There’s “dabbling ducks” and “diving ducks.” The mallards you see at the park eat little fish and aquatic plants by “dabbling”, or putting their butts in the air. Diving ducks feed very differently, and dive as far as 200 feet underwater, eating almost entirely fish, but they can also eat shellfish and plants they find, too. They can and will feed under ice as long as there’s some duck-sized entrance. Maybe there’s some open water somewhere, or it dove into an ice fishing hole. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen penguins swimming around underwater looking for food, but diving ducks aren’t too different. They’ll swim around down there for quite some time, eating fish. This one just happened to be swimming in the wrong place at the wrong time, it seems.

@Brian Farley depends what kind of excitement tho, most people acting "exciting" overly happy and smile on yt and social media are usually the most broken people trying to mask the pain and sadness. I'm not saying its the case but know that people are deceiving. If you look on yt shorts you will notice that a lot of those "pranks" is about people deceiving others, mock others and laugh about nonsense. You need to be carefull what you feed your mind with and what morals you hold onto. These yt shorts got children believe and cherish things that are evil and corrupt. Over sexualization, lying, deceiving, scaring people, mocking others. That's what children get to see on here. Straight twisted and irresponsible adults looking for lazy passive income while preying and destroying the minds of the youth and even adults with the type of content i mentioned above

It looks like a common goldeneye. They are one of the few species of duck that eat fish. He probably ate the fish off of the hook. That’s an easy meal for them it can’t go anywhere.
