Todd, Fantastic footage and stills! As someone who also enjoys taking duck pics, this really brought me joy since I’ve been sidelined a few months with back/ leg issues. Thanks for posting your videos and keep up the great work!

excellent video, and thanks for the advice on how to get that nice angle of the birds. I have a lake near by and was able to try the technique. Also, I live in Las Vegas and last year I notice a duck i've never seen before and took a few nice shots of it, and now I know it was a Ring necked Duck.

Beautiful ducks. We see these in OH as they migrate through. The males are just stunning. I don’t have great luck photographing ducks close to home. They flush easily and our local wetlands is busy with walkers. I can get some on Lake Erie, but I don’t love the compositions much. Ducks and water and ducks! I’d love the opportunity to get this close in some natural habitat! I’m retiring soon, so I’ll be able to travel more. Love the vibe on this channel and the soundtrack. Beautiful work.

Thanks for watching and for the comment. Ducks can be really hard to get close too. The best bet is to find a good spot and sit and wait for them to come toward you on their own. Many times camouflage is really useful, really the only reason I wasn’t using more in this video is because it is a busy area and didn’t want to be that guy! Good luck!

Todd, great video! Amazing footage. I'd really love to understand how you are doing your still vs video work with that big glass in the field. Are you using a drop in ND? Are you sticking with the 1/250 shutter for your 120fps slow mo (180-degree rule) or are you dialing up the SS so you can keep your aperture open for those nice smooth backgrounds? Anyways, you are doing amazing work and would love some how-to videos to go along with your other footage!

Thanks for watching and for the comment! I am fortunate that the z9 has the ability to switch from video to photo at the flip of a switch which makes the transition easy. For video if I am shooting fast moving birds I typically have my shutter speed at 1/200 for the slow motion, I found that this works and I don't need it at 1/250. For the subjects that are slower moving and things I don't think ill need slow motion of I do adjust it down to 1/125 and change the frame rate. I do not use an ND filter on my lenses other than for my vlogging lens. I am working on making some how to videos in the future as I will be getting a recorder to record my camera screen so you will be better able to see settings and what I'm doing. That will be happening in the coming weeks. If you have any other questions let me know I'll be happy to answer them. It may be easier to email me them though because sometime comments get lost after a while. my contact info is in my page info. todd@todddewaldphotography.com. thanks again

Enjoyed this one! That was great eye level footage you were able to get with the tripod set up like that. Does totally submerging it give you any issues later on? I have been enjoying the Ringed-neck ducks the past few weeks up here in New Hampshire. I actually found and photographed a pair with their young up on the NH/Canada border last summer, so I guess they can breed that far "south" too.
@ToddDeWaldPhotography10 ай бұрын
Thank you! I try to be sure to dry the tripod off and drain all the water out of it. I have noticed the joints getting stiffer and some rust forming but I’ve also had it in saltwater like this so it’s bound to start having issues. I can say I’ve had this one for three years now and it still works great ! That’s awesome I’m jealous you have access to them breeding!

@@ToddDeWaldPhotography Yes, my experience with salt water, only a few inches submerge for landscape shots, had me wondering since I just had to get a new tripod these year to replace said saltwater infested old one. I guess prompt rinsing and drying might be key.

Perfection,Todd! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge of what you are capturing!! I learn so much..Can you share what boots you use for these types of photography? THANK YOU!!
@ToddDeWaldPhotography9 ай бұрын
Thank you! I am glad it is helpful! I got the boots off amazon, here is the link to them amzn.to/4aYS7Tw. You can find them from a few different sites. I got the insulated pair to help against the cold water in the winter. It may be better to try to get them in store somewhere though because the ones I have are a little big even though I ordered a size down from my normal shoe size.

great video Todd, low is the best . how many shots on average do you take in a day out .was out this morning on a pond got 1500 shots now the edit, again great channel..
@ToddDeWaldPhotography10 ай бұрын
Thank you I agree with the low angle with waterfowl! It really depends on the species you’re photographing. For these ducks it was about 1500-2000 for an afternoon. High burst rates create a lot of the same images. For my last video on tree swallows it was more like 9000 photos due to the erratic movement of them. Good luck editing!
