Jan Wegener at Toolangi, the Wirrawilla Rainforest Walk is a good spot but too dark. I prefer the first 200m of the Quarry Rd from the carpark. They love the running water spots so as long as you hear water flowing, there’s a good chance to find them. The lower viewdeck at Hopetoun Falls in the Otways is my go-to place if i have enough time to travel and free for a day. Pretty consistent and very reliable spot. There’s two active breeding pairs down at the falls. Check my fb account(gene ignacio) and also Perry Cho(or Patient Eye Imaging), you see our photos of the pink robins at Hopetoun Falls.

Why do you set ISO at 2500 and not lower don't you significant grain at 2500 or is the flash compensating for that? Why is aperture at 7.1 why not shoot wide open at 2.8 with much lower ISO and the same shutter speed of 1/400? Look forward to more videos on this channel, love your work on Instagram.
@jan_wegener5 жыл бұрын
ISO 2500 is easily manageable when you expose properly and have a bright background in your image. There is basically no noise. If I was shooting wide open, I would lose way too much depth of field and not all parts of the bird and perch would be in focus. So I much prefer a little bit of noise, that I can easily deal with if I need to, compared to an out of focus tail or feet. There's really no reason to be afraid of ISO. I used to always use low ISO, but there's really no benefit these days. Anything up to 1600 you can hardly notice. I usually shoot between 800 and 1600 and use no noise reduction. It's all about your exposure and background, if that's spot on ISO almost doesn't matter.
@neruosrakras5 жыл бұрын
With the bright background at a significant distance, additional flash lighting and perfect subject position using your perch technique I can see how your settings work as you can control the shot completely. Basically, you have found a sneaky way to turn wildlife photography into studio photography! :) Your work is fantastic Jan. Have you thought of doing a workshop in Australia we can attend?
