In this video, the young thrush of the mountain ash (sibling) sings soulful songs, trying to attract the attention of its parents, who still regularly carry food to the nest. Having not received due attention (the next portion of food), the chick begins to act up, nervously and parading, pecking the leaves of the apple tree. Of course, his parents feed him, but this moment is not shown in the video.
The young thrush of the mountain ash has left the nest, but so far remains on the same tree where its brothers and sisters are in the nest.
The nest is too small to accommodate four already large enough chicks. One did have to leave the nest.
The small size of the nest is not the only reason for leaving. There is more important - the continuation of the kind of thrush-mountain ash.
The most courageous chick, just become on the wing, leaves its cozy nest for good reason. It is separated from the family in order to have a chance to survive at least someone from the brood, when some predator, for example, a cat or a crow, finds the nest. The young thrush of the mountain ash does not fly away too far from the nest: about 15-20 meters.
He sits on the bushes or right on the ground in the grass. Parents find him by the sounds, which he periodically publishes. These sounds are very similar to singing. The chick can sit in one place for quite a long time. If necessary, adult blackbirds drive away large birds or animals from him, selflessly rushing at them, accompanying the attack with loud sounds and the rustle of their wings.
If you see a chick slytka somewhere in the park, in any case, do not carry it to your home. It is better not to approach it at all, except for cases when it is necessary to move it from the roadway to the grass. Parents of the thrush of the mountain-robber will not let him die of hunger, the main thing is not to stop them from doing so with their presence, approaching him too close.
Having watched a bit of the behavior of the mountain-robbers, I would like to point out one interesting detail. They do not discard the waste accumulated there from the nest. Thrushes envelop this waste into soft, small feathers, and then fly out of the nest, holding a large white lump in their beak (see excerpt - 01:25:00).
Most likely, the blackbirds do this not for hygienic reasons (although, how to know), but because of the disguise of the location of their nest. After all, if all this white material is just thrown down, the predator, having lifted his head up, can easily determine the nest locations and destroy the brood. I am not an ornithologist, this is just my guess :).
I have never watched so closely these clever birds before. This year, for the first time, they made a nest next to my house, on an old, half-dead apple tree, 20 meters from the windows of the house. I still do not understand why it is necessary to build a nest in such a dangerous and noisy place, like a residential courtyard where people walk, a dog and a cat run, and all this is right under this apple tree.
Indeed, in two hundred meters from here there is a dense plantation, where there is not all this beast under your nest, where silence and grace. Perhaps the birds somehow feel that people in this house are very fond of animals, that here they will be protected from aggressive crows and beasts?
Birds are a miracle of nature, a real miracle. Help them if circumstances so require, and protect them from people with a stony heart.
