All birds shown are captured and handled by trained and permitted professionals as part of ongoing scientific monitoring. Filming is incidental to the process and birds are safely released afterwards. Do not attempt without appropriate training, supervision or permits.

Are these birds, especially the tiny ones like hummingbirds, not traumatized in any way by your handling of them?

Nope! Follow up studies have found that stress metabolites return to normal within minutes. It's a stressful experience, I won't deny that, but far from a traumatic one. And we monitor them closely for signs of severe stress the whole time, and release as soon as we see them.

I love feeding hummers, but they’re so mean to each other! One takes possession of the feeder and fiercely defends it from every other hummingbird that tries to feed. There’s plenty to go around.

Are you sure that the banded birds aren't being judged by their fellow non banded birds? Inevitably messing around with things like migration, etc etc....
