Craftsman at work! This guy can probably feel waves in plate glass with those hands .

I know its old but.. s kingjr the tool would be closest to something called a "dolly". By using a dolly and an anvil you can smooth a piece of metal perfectly with minimal stretch.. with enough time.

Using a dent roller can do a better job before using the burnisher tool. Not bad on that bell buckle dent.

I'm sitting here thinking of all the things he's doing that I wouldn't do. You mentioned the dent roller. My idea, as I just started watching, is why in hell is he rubbing the surface when he can roll it. A simple piece of tubing with an axel thru it from the junk pile would do a better job than this. And why is he hitting a curved surface with a flat(ish) hammer? This is an example of the novice repeating his mistakes for 30 years and never questioning his work.

Hi Paul, this is great, what type of burnishing tool are you using here?

I think if you had hammed the bell down in the rim, it would of pulled some of the dents out. It's what I do

that what it looks like or am I missing something here?

The video is a bit whacked. That looks like a file, but i have to imagine it's some kind of burnishing tool, right? Is that a 'standard' trumpet anvil-type thingie? If not, how do you avoid re-shaping the bell to something awful?
@k0ptelefoon13 жыл бұрын
Did you grease the bell when repairing it? Why and what?
@ClueLou14 жыл бұрын
did you dent that on purpose?

Great for my Bach BUNDY, but seems to me a rough finish, regardless how much better it is than before started. Is there another step fro here that I didn't catch? I do not mean to be judgemental.

I dont think he`s finished yet....Well, he hasn`t.

Likely the instrument isn't, as it would make little sense to stop at that point. What I would like to get, if its possible, is a response from Paul. here is no question in my mind that he is/was a master craftsman. Like to see the next step/s is all.

To avoid re-shaping the bell to something awful - Don't mount it to your face - OH, SNAPPP!!!! Sorry, that was just too irresistible. I'm just kidding. Have a nice day.

@jmtoor and yeah, kind of dumb to dent an instrument on purpose.
