Hi Ade, I'm just getting back to photography and have decided that wildlife is the thing for me. I'm in the process of buying my kit and currently looking at a flash setup, so this really helped. Really enjoyed watching the video, very informative. I live in Stafford so might see you around some time.

Hi Ade, just found your site as I searched for info on flash for wildlife photography. I have been into photography for around 15 years but hardly ever use flash and it is an area that interests me. I am also a Cannock Chase fan as like you I live not too far away in Wolverhampton. I have subscribed to your KZbin Channel and look forward to seeing more of your excellent videos.

Great vide easily explained Please explain the flash set up on the stand where is the flash facing and you have a cover on it what is that for Thanks
@clarkepictures5677 Жыл бұрын
Hi Asad, thanks for watching. The flash is facing towards the subjects at about a 45 degree angle - this is approximate, doesn’t have to be exact, just out of the way enough not to blow out the image with light spill. If you’ve got enough receivers & more flash units you can place some behind the subjects for rim lighting. The cover is basically just a zip lock food bag to keep the rain off. Cheers, Ade

Great technique, thanks for sharing. Have you thought about using a more powerful flash. You don’t need really more light but you’d get a much faster flash duration than with a speed light to freeze the action more.

Hi Dave, thanks for watching & the comment, much appreciated👍 I’ve actually used quite a few different setups so far, ranging from corded studio flash to speed lights, to constant lighting. I’m currently using a Godox ad200 which seems to have a nice balance between power & recycle time which was a bit of a problem with the speed lights.

@@clarkepictures5677 No problem mate. I was thinking of the ad200's actually, I've got a couple of them as well as the 400 an 600 versions (I'm a pro wedding tog). I'd be tempted to use a constant light for the blur and flash to freeze, just so I had control over everything, I've done a bit of that with dancers. Called drag and pop but wouldn't have thought to use it with birds! Just got to think of a good spot to set it up without upsetting anyone! lol Might bump into you sometime as I'm only in Derby so go to Cannock an around that area a bit :)

Dave Hughes I’ve used a spotlight with the flash to highlight the motion, only problem with that being outside it’s not controlled & it’s kind of at the mercy of the ambient light & a bit hit & miss at times(usually the WRONG times🤣) photo’s of ballet dancers in motion was where I got the idea from to start with. Hopefully the current situation isn’t hitting you too hard, done a couple of weddings as favours to family & gotta say wedding togs deserve full respect & every penny you charge!

@@clarkepictures5677 Yeah you've got a point, it'd have to be a pretty bright light during the day. I was just thinking how I've done it in the studio. Night work better towards twilight. No it's not too bad at the moment but we'll have to see how it develops over summer. Weddings aren't too bad, I come from a background in shooting spots for the newspapers, so weddings are pretty relaxed by comparison! lol

Just found this video - brilliant! Did you diffuse the flash at all?
@clarkepictures56772 жыл бұрын
Hi Leigh, thanks for watching. No, it was bare flash, I did experiment a little with diffusing the light (plastic milk cartons work wonders🤣) but I always preferred the look of bare flash, seemed a sharper look if you see what I mean.
