Always a pleasant surprise to find a special video from a great birder! Still perfect in 2020.

Good views of those birds. Thanks for posting. There are however two birds that were given the wrong names. At 0.55 the Red-bellied woodpecker is mislabeled as a Red-billed woodpecker. And at 1:26 the Northern cardinal is misnamed a red cardinal.

Good fun that you chose the fall migration to film. Of course, the first couple of weeks in May are usually the best.

Question - What's the bird's name that calls at 1:14 ? Thanks a lot!

I think it's a northern flicker or a blue jay.

Tijmen van Doornik Thanks for your response - but it doesn't seem to be either one. I keep on looking and listening - keeping you posted :) Thanks.

1:14 is positively a gentle blue jay call, with out a doubt. He / She also sounded off only moments later at 1:53 in this video but their more alarming song. Blue jays are very smart and can be quite aggressive at times. They are among the first to show up when food is put out and they study the food for about 5 seconds from a distance and amazingly always grab the largest piece every time. We've been studying this for about 4 years. You can enjoy lots of blue jay calls throughout my vegetable gardening videos. They would never leave our videos happen without getting in on the action. They are the sentries of the forest, quick to give a warning. We say that they are saying "There they are making another vegetable gardening video". LOL. Check out some of my videos. I will be posting a bird video soon. Enjoy :-)

Corrin Jessen Blue Jays are mind blowing intelligent ! We watch then study food and pick out the largest pieces from high up and come down and grab the largest one. Yesterday we witnessed a blue jay let out their excellent hawk scream and we immediately spotted a red tailed hawk gliding above. So I'm gathering that when we hear blue jays make their hawk imitation they are warning all the birds and animals that there is a hawk around. I will be listening and watching for this from now on. FANTASTIC !
