This was a great refreshing comic book movie. I want more of the birds of prey and they def need their own movie. I’m always ready for another Harley movie as well. 8/10 for me.

Paris 008 I know it’s Harley’s affectation but set against Rosie Perez’s genuine Nuyorican accent (I’m a born and bred Brooklyn girl myself), it becomes really obvious that the accent is artificial. It worked on the cartoon in the 90s because it was used pretty sparingly so even though I’m going to watch this, I’m hoping it won’t take me out of it too much.

People are really frustrating me about this film. People trolling before they've even seen it, slating it for no reason, and claiming that there's some sort of SJW conspiracy behind the positive reviews. That's just pathetic. This film is fun, I had a good time, and I don't have much more to say about it than that. It's better than most mid-tier marvel movies and it's depressing how many people seem to be attacking it because it's female led.

Yeh it was fun. The criticism I've seen wasn't about the women rather the white man bad trope that it centre's around and tbh all the guys are bad or stupid and are all misogynistic. I don't care myself but can see that it's there. The film is kinda like the spice girls meets Deadpool via Snatch. They did Market the film as tackling 'Everyday misogyny' according to Ewan McGregor so they probably targeted the woke dollar's. Joker benefited from outrage dollars for sure.

The movie lacked substance and was too predictable. Fight sequences were not convincing enough and the could have done with more stunt doubles for the hand to hand fight sequences. Black canary was an absolute flop and I expected more from Huntress...flop if you ask me..

Honestly, this comments section just gets depressing at times. He’s a movie critic reviewing a film, but some people seem to believe that he is somehow starting a Marxist revolution because he said a film was okay. If people actually heard themselves. This is it guys. The fall of the capitalist regime and the start of the glorious communist revolution because in his three minute and twenty eight second review of a film, Mark Kermode called Birds of Prey “okay and entertaining”. It’s not woke. It’s not to do with it being a female ensemble. It’s not any of that. Take down the chalkboard and put away the strings. The secret is this: it’s not some great “leftist revolution” that Kermode thought the film was okay and entertaining, it’s because the film was probably okay and probably entertaining.

All the male characters are either bad, duplicitous or useless and the movie definitely has a Men are Sexist pigs message but I don't think that makes it woke per say, it's not really political or pushing SJW themes. White men being bad in movies is pretty standard these days so nothing knew and it's about a girl gang so it is what it is. It's more Spice Girls than Guardianista.

I have listened to loads of film reviews by Mark Kermode as he is my most trusted critic. I have agreed with him many times and disagreed with him a few times. The times I have not agreed with him I have still respected his view as he lays out his criticisms or praises quite nicely. This is the first time I have ever thought he was not being honest! This film is unwatchable crap. Their entire relationship was 6 scenes in another movie so you don't care about it. Everyone except Robbie and mcgregor sucked the story was all over the play the soundtrack was uninspired crap and all in all was an absolute shit on the several decades of comics that came before it for each character. Plus its all exposition. It sucks I walked out half way through.

I admit that the movie is not super woke like i thought. There are some great scenes that were really creative, but this movie does have an anti-male agenda every single man in the movie is negative and its not just the villains, its any random guy that appears including the police who are suppose to be the good guys. That said, whatever he believes i don't agree that one should let his/her personal opinions regarding feminism cloud their official opinion on the overall quality of a movie, i agree that i like and agree with majority of marks reviews but again i feel that he was definitely holding back from giving any negative light to this movie so he doesn't get labelled with anything which sadly tends to happen to much now, he was pretty reserved with his gb2016 review from what i remember too and that was awful. He's ripped other films apart that weren't half as bad in the past, both reviews were like he was walking on egg shells to me. Respect your opinion though mate, thanks for the reply 👍👍

It was a good movie, I enjoyed it I think it gets a lot of hate for no reason. Hated suicide squad set the precedent for this, unable to differentiate 🙄.

Kermode's accent drives me mad- where the hell did this antipodean "Aaand" come from? Watch his documentary on The Exorcist, from 1998, and he sounds like he's from Coventry!

the fights were fun. but once again it was a female led movie bogged down with the usual agenda. every single man in the movie was either a creep, a rapist or an A-hole. even when you think there is finally ONE nice guy in the movie, nope! he's a traitor. please hollywood, just give us a female hero movie that is just a hero movie, NOONE wants your SJW BS. take note from Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman ROCKED! also take note from Ghostbusters, Charlies Angels, Terminator DF and Birds of Pray for how NOT to make a female led movie. tl;dr a nice idea, fun fights, but ruined by the usual feminist agenda.

@@tomduggan8044 its a typical trope in these movies bogged down with the agenda. every man, EVERY SINGLE ONE was horrible. the trailer didn't seem to be the typical feminist trailer though (hence why i actually went to see this one) and the first few minutes felt promising, but these female directors...they just can't get their mind over their agendas and just make a movie.

@@tomduggan8044 what would you call it then? because it is always the case in movies with clear feminazi vibes. the men are always "toxic" A-holes and the hero women always have to stop them. if you wouldn't file this under Hollywood's feminist agenda then i don't know what you'd call it. in this movie we have very few noticable male character, who do we have? we have the lying cop who steals credit from the woman hero cop and treats her like crap. we have the guy at the bar who buys a hero woman a drink, obviously he's not being nice he's trying to daterape and then abduct her. we have the main villain of the movie who's so overly hostile to women to the point of it being uncomfortable. we have to lovely chinese man who we think will be a decent guy, sells the hero woman out for cash. because men can't have humanity ofcourse. this is the man-hating feminist agenda on drugs. i really do want more female led movies, but i want them how they used to be, not the utter TRASH hollywood is farting out now. the old movies had not one single hint of agenda, just a movie with a lead character who happens to be a woman. i didn't think that the old Tombraider movies (for example) were good at the time, but comparing them to something like the new Charlies Angels makes them look like pure gold. and Birsd of Prey would have been a much better movie without all of that junk getting forced down our throats.

@@RaptorJesus. you have a point, this portrayal of men is wrong I agree. I'm just saying a feminist is someone who strives for equality between the sexes. This is not that, and is instead just a sexist view of men. That's not really feminism your on about. Maybe some of these people with these views identify as feminists, but they're not.

Nice review fella, but I’m not spending any money or time to see it, I’ll just wait for the short run to be over then watch it, maybe, on the pirate site once it’s on dvd and ripped in HD...

Suicide Squad was crap so for this film to be lacking in good quality marketing and trailers has put it straight in the 'won't even rent it' category for me.
