Sportsmans Warehouse - Not for knives!!

Let's do some shopping (mostly knives) at a new store for us, Sportsmans Warehouse. Hunting/fishing/camping and outdoor gear of all varieties with dozens of stores across the nation, mostly on the West Coast. We expect these stores to have higher prices than online sources, but in this case we're seeing some prices more than double!!

There are 2 Sportsman's Warehouse here in the Tucson area. They do indeed have a huge inventory of all things outdoors there, but as you saw, their pricing is just too much! Living my best La Vida Loca here in south eastern Arizona

BNB is Buck N Bear, a Pakistani Co. Sportsman’s Warehouse is right down the street from me. When I go in there to look at their knives, I end up leaving and going across the street to EDC Specialties!!! They have a knife lounge and a Medford room!!! Everything in EDC Specialties is American Made!!! Y’all should check em’ out online!!!

Man I miss that store so bad. They pulled out of my area quite a few years ago. When they had their grand opening it was the place I got my first knife. Also the first place I ever saw a rainbow leek which entranced me from the display case. Their knife display was much more impressive than it is now. If you want to see probably the most impressive knife selection at a sporting goods store, go to Scheels. The most impressive retail knife store is hands down Smoky Mountain Knife Works.

They’re dead because it’s easier and more convenient to purchase most things online. I can say I’d pay a substantial tax on most things I purchase to avoid having to deal with shit heads at a store.

I'm moving to my state capitol. There's big stores and I believe 3 brick n mortars!!! I'm super stoked for relevant knives in actual shops. Plus In N Out Burger like I used to go to Utah for a knife shop ( Blade HQ) and In n Out Burger, but they're both at the same intersection instead of separated by one off ramp along the 15 Freeway on my way back to Idaho.

I have a sportsman's warehouse here and it kind of sucks lately. They used to sell lots of knife brands in the store. I bought a Spyderco and an Ontario there a few years ago. Now it's mainly all expensive benchmade for some reason. I also bought a Morakniv there but they stopped selling those too

When my youngest was 5 or 6 I got him the CRKT "Nathan's Knife" wooden kit. It was a fun project staining the wood and sharpen the blade. He used it to open packages for a while! Now he's a few years older and owns a bunch of knives but still keeps the wooden knife handy. 😊

I got my first 10/22 from sportsmans warehouse and all my flies for fly fishing. They have gone out of business multiple times, the one in my city has opened and reopened like 3 times under new ownership.

We have one in Ankeny Iowa. Usually a pretty decent selection. They give a 5% veterans discount. Almost knocks off the sales tax anyway… Dicks, Scheels, and Bass Pro does 10% along with Home Depot and Lowe’s. Menards and Harbor Freight don’t offer a discount.

We had a Sportsman Warehouse in Olympia Wa. And I loved the store, but they closed when Cabela’s opened. I won’t shop at Cabela’s because they wouldn’t follow the COVID restrictions at the height of the pandemic. Half of the people in the store were unmasked. Not OK. All we have left is Big 5 and all they have are cheap knives. Knife Center is my answer. The one time I bought at Blade HQ they had a data breach an somebody tried to buy stuff on our card at a Michigan Home Depot. Had to change out cards. Fun video. 🎸🔪

The Puyallup store does indeed have crazy high prices on the knives. Especially the ones in the glass case. For reference, I purchased a Kershaw Brawler and cold steel espada XL from an online retailer for less than half of S.W. I totally understand paying a little more to get it from a brick and morter store, and I would prefer to do so, but not for well over double. I will say the staff is all great and I have purchased many other items there. Edit: I forgot that did get a deal on the CRKT provoke there. Same price as BLADEHQ at the time.

About five years ago I was in a Walmart when I lived in Hawaii and they had the Gerber Dimes on clearance for 4. 99. I bought three different colors. To see it for 2999 like it is in this video I just have to shake my head because that is such a rip off compared to five dollars.😂

Once in a while Walmart will have some crazy clearance prices on a few knives. I got a green Kershaw Blur (with the coated 14C28N blade) on clearance for $27. The Blur is one of the great USA Made Kershaw’s that I would buy for that price any day. It’d be even better if they’d make an unassisted Blur.

Sportsman East Wenatchee WA had 3 ZT knives & I purchased 2 on black Friday @ lower prices . They still have not restocked any ZT's or Benchmades. Their inventory is dwindling even on Kershaws & CRKT. I check their website often for in store. Not a good trend for any business, not sustainable.

The Sportsman's here isn't too bad and it's usually where I go first for some camping stuff. They're owned by Bass Pro, so the high prices aren't that shocking

They’re not owned by Bass Pro. I worked for Sporsman’s for almost 14 years which ended this past Saturday, and the federal government shut the acquisition down due to monopolization of the economy. So SW is still independently owned and operated and is a publicly traded company on the NYSE. The parent company of Bass Pro ended up owing SW like $50 million in losses when the acquisition fell through though.

A lot of our sportsman’s out west have closed down. Still have one where I live. It sucks, horrible service and usually barren shelves. I have noticed that if I go in with a friend that has a beard and camo on, he gets great service. I only go if I absolutely have to.

Sportsman's is one of two major outdoors sporting goods stores in my area. The other is Norrh40, which Frankie may be familiar with, being from the PACNW. Buy the puffy pants.

Very common in Washington state. Pretty good place. Oh Burlington sorry. Was just up there yesterday. Usually pretty good prices some deals on knives every once in awhile. Buck, CRKT, Gerber , Shrade andBenchmade dominate the offerings most of the time

Every time I’ve looked at knives at Bass pro, Cabelas, etc, they have basic Benchmade, Kershaw, Gerber and all at MSRP. They do usually price match but the selection is no good.

Whenever the knife pron quotient is low, I like to think of knife videos in the park and stuff I'd be lucky to view, much less find one for me. I like the store videos because I do it too. And I like the talking! I'd have a barrel of fun if I went window shopping for knives and saw These two filming ( ok, "recording") a store video at the same time and place as I was at! I'd recognize their voices and look n see them n recognize them!

They price match with a lot of online sites. I got a Benchmade Weekender there for my dad for Christmas at $136 because MidwayUSA had them for that price. The manager tried jerking me around and not selling it for that price; “that’s below our cost, can’t do it” so I asked for him to show me that in the policy I had up on my phone. He then asked who the retailer was, and I said MidwayUSA; “we don’t recognize them” and I pointed out where MidwayUSA is a recognized retailer. After he said “fuck” under his breath, he took it up to the front counter 🤣😂

Ive been listening and reading comments, plus commenting on my first view now actually watching the video and Beaver knife that you called a butter knife is for skinning. because beaver pelts are so valuable that the knife you skin with CANNOT have a point/ tip since a hole cut into it would decimate its value.

Every retail store in America selling hunting, fishing or outdoors products is struggling to compete with the huge online retailers like Amazon. From the mom and pop tackle stores to the big box retailers, they struggle to balance low pricing against store overhead costs. Unfortunately, so many of the smaller retailers have just folded up and closed their doors. Online retailers offer so many customer advantages over a physical retail outlet, including lower pricing. Good for consumers? Well I think that is yet to be determined. Eventually, we may really miss having that local shop. Everything changes with time, including how sporting goods products are bought and sold. JMO

I've been to the SW in Erie PA. It's easily 3 times as big as that location. You might have missed some knives under glass in the gun section. They had some high end knives under glass at Erie. I remember seeing some nice White River knives there. The Erie location is full of taxidermy like a Cabelas. One of the employee's told me they spent 1 million dollars on taxidermy for that store. Pretty impressive.

Sorry I watched the video late. The Copper Kershaw Leek's steel is 154. I have seen them for under $100 at times. Its $115 on blade HQ. Everything in that stores display case was over priced. Outdoor edge is a Colorado Company, but everything is made in China.

Cabelas, Bass Pro, and Sportsman's are all the same company now. Sportsman's was absolutely fantastic when it opened in the 1990s. Their prices and service got progressively worse as they expanded. The Bass Pro acquisition of Sportsman's Warehouse marks the final homogenization of the brands.
