Phrixotrichus - a tongue breaker genus from the southern region of Chile. Remarkable beautiful specimens with colors only a few other tarantulas have. Follow us on our search in the chilly Chile for these amazing Phrixotrichus - or the Chilean Ocelot aka Red Fox - tarantula.
Watch us how we find adult males, adult females, freshly hatched egg sacks and much more! One of the few possibilities where it was possible to document all the life stages of Phrixotrichus in their natural habitat

Awesome! Please Martin, could you in the future go to one of those caves in Mexico and make a research of this cave dwellung speicies. I would live to learn how they live, their prey and much more. I only know that they where in the genus Spelopelma before, but they have been change to that genus you mention. I love both tarantulas AND caves, so that would be great

Hi nice video, I'm from the Bio-Bio region in Chile and I wanted to ask you if you remember where you shot this video because I'd love to go there and see those amazing tarantulas. Greetings from Concepción, I love your content.

you should check if they look like the spiderlings in the video, with two distinct urticating hair patches. If they don't then it's not Phrixotrichus :)

yep, but since they offer only 1cm slings I would like to know how they look. In fact that is the only Chilean species you can identify as a spiderling, unique characters!

Kinda wild. When you think of south america, you don't think of pine forests. I'd be curious to see the natural habitat of the chilean rose hair. I've heard it's pretty bone dry.

Sad to hear that they die easily in captivity.. Could it be the need for direct sunlight as you observed earlier? Maybe the importers kept them in typical keeper conditions where light is kept to a minimum and no exposure to sunlight.
@birdspiders
@birdspiders 5 жыл бұрын
they probably behaved like this to increase the chance for a successful eggsack, since they were all with freshly hatched spiderlings at that time. All theories of course, more research would be necessary
