It’s amazing how you can think you’re doing everything right, and he’s sending the complete wrong message to your bird. Think about how many less people get bit because they learn to communicate better with their bird because of these videos!

That's honestly sad because there are endless greys and other parrots suffering in shelters and such and they choose to bring more into the world for a profit... Cool to experience one in person but sad that it has to be at a retail store.

The worst thing you can do is smoke around a bird they should have immediately educated her on that but of course they don't want to pass off a customer this woman is not a responsible bird owner for smoking in the home with birds period!

I feel like they were probably responding to the look of the bird and the color. You can usually see a “smoke tint” or different color to anything in a home of a smoker including their pets. I bet they educated her off camera

@@Witch.inscriptions I don't know if they did or not but it's definitely something they should have put on the video they didn't make much of a big deal about it they were more concerned about selling their diet then actually the smoke at least in the video

I used to be afraid of my African Grey biting me, so I started grabbing her upper mandible gently with my thumb and index finger, and I put my finger in her beak every time I set her down on a perch or wherever. Now she gives me sweet birdie kisses whenever I do this. My point is that you don’t necessarily need a treat to train your bird to stop biting you, just a reward.

So interesting the dynamic of single birds, food, and my hens’ flock dynamic. I remove any competition between them by providing their dry, organic whole grain layer feed at all times. I bring food out at night when I put them to bed for their trough (inside the rodent secure coop) so when they get up, they immediately have it (and a hanging waterer) available. This lady has good intentions, but still..is unwilling to provide a good environment. She has to quit smoking..second hand smoke has poisoned the whole house, believe me, I know..I was the equivalent of that bird trapped in a house of smokers. Too little sleep and nicotine isn’t a good combination for that bird.

What I disliked about this particular person was her saying she smoked in the house then proceeded to say she knew it was bad. Why do people keep doing what they know is bad ? That’s crazy to me. I’m a smoker myself but knowing it could harm my bird if I had one, I just wouldn’t. Not around it anyway. I’d smoke away, outside period. Just common sense. If you keep harming your bird’s health knowingly, shame on you.

I am annoyed at Karen when she says about her parrot "she likes that" or "that what's she wants" with certainty and conviction. This is the mindset that guarantees that she is NOT observing, not listening, not working to understand her bird. It looks very close-minded to me. Taking the attitude of a learner with a desire to provide the best for the bird would lead to much better outcomes for both the parrot and her people. Same thing with @wes mcfadden. Emphatically stating something does not make it true. Curiosity and a desire to understand is much more productive. When you're convinced that something is true, you stop listening to new information and close off the possibility of improving your understanding.

I believe that I have watched nearly every single video you have here describing different bird types and their needs and/or behaviors. (this will NOT be accepted well) I applaud what you do, BUT... I feel as though people should NOT have parrots as pets. It's always a case of not allowing them to get heightened or basically, letting them do what they want to do. It's a sad reality for birds kept as "pets". Birds want a 24/7 partner. I started this journey looking for my "ideal" parrot or parakeet for a pet. It doesn't exist. Wife and I tried years ago and I can admit we (unknowingly) did most things wrong. But even still, it had to do with the nature of said bird type. This is not a rant against bird "owners"(chaperones). It is a rant against bird breeders for cash though. Birdtricks, you never sugar-coat it and I applaud that.

You people need to stop telling people how to SPEAK! If the lady uses the word “she loves”, I love to” Just fill in the blank. When I hear “Educators” criticizing their “students”, I ASSUME the teacher isn’t able to teach well enough. You folks are not “Word Smiths “ & you SHOULD be able to interpret both the HUMAN & the BIRD. That’s effective teaching.

They're trying to reframe how people think about things. They're not using these words for no reason, it's to give a more realistic interpretation of a behaviour or a response. 'Love' implies a positive response, rather than a more neutral or situational interpretation of a strong arousal or a conditioned response. Words are important. And useful.

Yeah that's really funny. You can see this woman has tattoos but she's afraid of getting bitten by a bird? But she will go to a tattoo parlor and they will stick needles in her repeatedly for a prolong period of time. I'm sorry I just find that hilarious. I get better by my birds I did not infrequent basis but it doesn't bother me. And not only that my one macaw when he bites he rips out flesh. And still it doesn't bother me

I would never withhold food to train my birds.
@meekaboi
@meekaboi 2 жыл бұрын
It's not withholding - you're not starving them - it's making them work for their food, something they do instinctively. Good dog trainers do the same. I've reached the point where I can feed my bird without training, but it was absolutely necessary when she was a baby and we were establishing boundaries and trust. Of course not feeding a bird for a day to make them so hungry they'll do anything is wrong and unhealthy, but that's not at all what's being advocated here.
@texsizeParrot
@texsizeParrot 2 жыл бұрын
@@meekaboi not giving food in the morning, how is that not withholding food? And I did not say starving, you said that. You can do what you like with your pets. My companion birds won’t be denied food just to put on a show.

@@texsizeParrot They spoke about not feeding them the same time every day and incorporating the training when they're more food motivated. You're taking their words WAY out of context. Maybe you need to stop watching "BirdTricks" if you're just looking for something to criticize.

@@carlapierle8623 Birds specifically parrots like routine. That’s a fact. When you disrupt that routine you end up with unhappy birds. I try to keep my birds on the routine they are use to. Again I say you can treat or mistreat your own pets anyway you want. I was hoping to get some insight into the care of my Congo African Grey . Compared to my time spent with my Amazons (more than 30 years, probably longer than those two have been alive) my African Grey is relatively new to me (2016). I do enjoy watching their free flight episodes. They take great care in finding safe places for that.
