BIRGI VILLAGE (İzmir/Ödemiş), one of the 'best 32 tourism villages in the world'

Birgi Village, located in the Ödemiş district of İzmir, has become one of the best 32 tourism villages in the world. Birgi, which includes historical structures such as the Ulu Mosque and Çakırağa Mansion, was added to the World Heritage Tentative List by UNESCO in 2012. In 2022, it was selected as one of the 32 best tourism villages in the world by the World Tourism Organization.
Birgi Village came under the rule of Phrygians, Lydians, Persians, Pergamonians and Romans, respectively. It was the capital of Aydınoğulları Principality in the 13th and 14th centuries. In 1426, it was included in the borders of the Ottoman Empire. The touristic structures in the historical Birgi district are as follows: Çakırağa Mansion (18th century), Aydınoğlu Mehmet Bey Mosque (14th century), Aydınoğlu Hamam (14th century), İmam-ı Birgivi Tomb (16th century). Sandıkoğlu Mansion (19th century), Birgivi Mehmet Efendi Madrasa (16th century), Karaoğlu Mosque (18th century), Birgi Walls, Demiri Store (16th century), Küp Uçuran (12th century), Ümmü Sultan Tomb (14th century) th century), Gazi Umur Bey Statue, Kerim Ağa Mansion (18th century)
