This is easily one of the most DANGEROUS cities in America! Birmingham, Alabama has a violent crime rate of 393% OVER the National Average and its only continuing to get worse. It was a hot summer day, and what I found were so many rundown, dilapidated, or just flat out abandoned places it was crazy. The poverty rate is staggering at over 24%, and is one of the worst in the United States. Let's take a drive through some of the worst areas of Birmingham, AL.

I went duck hunting a few years ago with a friend who invited me to Birmingham. I was only there for four days. I never got into the city. I'm amazed it got the same problems of blight as Detroit where I worked till I lost my auto manufacturing job. We need to invest back into are county and quit shipping jobs over seas ...

Yeah but or lose came years before Detroit's , the steel collapse of the 60s 70s took it out

@weldonbailey1005 2 жыл бұрын
@@williammoran4898 US STEEL FAIRFIELD WORKS was rolling hard in the 60s into the early 70s. Mid 70s was the start of the sharp decline. Rebuilding Japan and Germany post WWII (at American taxpayer expense) and the more modernized steel plants there hurt US STEEL as much as anything. Japan and Germany began producing cheaper low AND higher grade steel much more efficiently than the older open hearth furnace methofs and the qbop (sic) more modernized furnaces were started too late in most US plants. Huge union benefits and greivances during the attempt to modernize didnt help during struggling times either.

@karengreen3345
@karengreen3345 2 жыл бұрын
@@BrandonandYolani you are absolutely. Birmingham, just like any other city has its faults, bilghts, and misfortunes. Poverty, health issues, ab abundance of migrants moving into the areas as well low paying employment. If the elected officials don't create programs, investments into the communities where it's needed, senior housing, people with disabilities, increased youth programs, higher education incentives. And what's the deal with cut backs on training programs. Businesses have also cut back with donations and community services. There are also some great areas in the city, public transportation has improved, touring has improved, streets have improved, sanitation has improved, education is improving, along with building and cleaning up abandoned areas. Crime is up everywhere, not just here. Hospitals and clinics are overbooked just as other cities. I appreciate this eye opening video but you also need to give the city some credit for at least attempt ing to make it a better place. Of, course people need to take a lil pride in their communities as well. They don't have to wait for the city to clean around their own back and front doors. They have to look for the police to administrater productive safety measures in their homes, and streets. Let's help one another by reaching out and not always approaching the negative. It's going to get better and there will be a brighter day. Steal plants gone, pipe plants moved, ice cream plants closed, milk plant closed, productive sources of income have also affected the poverty increase.

Carraway Hospital is a sad story. It was bought by a group of physicians and kept alive for a few more years, but we were always told it was going to be a new psych hospital. There are very few hospitals in the area with psych wards and most hospitals will be on psych divert at any given moment in time. It was something the area really needed.
