I am pretty sure that Dave Peace used to work at the old Rackhams Department Store which was my first job after leaving school in 1971. I recall seeing Dave and his band Birmingham do a set at the old Cedar Club on Constitution Hill and hearing him being interviewed on Radio Birmingham when they were broadcasting out of the sadly missed Pebble Mill studios on a programme called Heavy Pressure presented by Malcolm Jay . Anyhow what a terrific album and band who deserved much more attention at the time.

I'm very intrigued by this album which popped up in my KZbin feed! I actually used to live very near the Hollick and Taylor studios and knew that many Brum musicians recorded there. The band interested me, I don't recall their name at all - was trying to read the members (on my phone screen 😄) and the only person I remember and I actually knew back in the mid 70's is Billy Paul (RIP) the sax player. I think someone mentioned Dave Pegg but I don't see his name there? Anyway, the tracks seem a good mix of cover versions that local bands would have been playing at that time.

I love it, but how bad is the price of an original and why isn't there a reissue of this masterpiece? I would love to start a reissue label because so many great records still have yet to be reissued or are long out of print. This is a great album sort of an eclectic pop psych sound to it. Nice cover too.

First, thanks so much for uploading this and all the other rare albums, I would have otherwise never heard. I must admit to liking the first few songs. It was when they got into some of the more recognizable covers that they lost me. I liked "Fire & Rain", but I detest James Taylor, so that stands to reason. Not as big on their covers of "Stone Free" and "Summertime Blues". Either way, thanks again for the up!

I've never heard before this album until now. This is listenable album but maybe sounds better if listen more. Anyway this is not bad album musically. I think this group took their name from town. All in all very interesting UK private pressing record. I had chance to buy this album few weeks ago but I did not. I've no idea quality of pressing, is it good or poor or between them?
@RarestRecords8 жыл бұрын
Hi Ludmila thanks for all your comments...they are much appreciated, the Birmingham vinyl is very thick and well pressed the recording was pretty good for an independently funded artist however as with most private pressings it is the mastering process that usually loses a lot of the quality of the original recording, this was because it was so expensive to spend time on mastering and bands would often not see the importance of it..thanks again

Dave Peace cut an album on Saga Records in 1969 'Good Morning Mr Blues' under the name Dave Peace Quartet. The bassist was Dave Pegg later in Fairport Convention. It's a great blues album and you should be able to find it fairly cheap.

The record sleeve you have tells most of whats known about this band, where they recorded the album, who played on it. They named themselves after Birmingham (UK) and recorded and released their only album locally through the local record label Grosvenor. Dave Peace had previously released an album on Saga called `Good Morning Mr Blues` in 1969. Can anybody else fill in the blanks??
