Oh Grow up, half of so called Manchester skyscrapers are in the City of Salford, The City of Birmingham is modern, cosmopolitan and green and has plenty of high rise buildings spread arround the City Center.

yeh but Birmingham will surpass it in time. It was has way more in the pipeline for upcoming developments and will benefit hugely from HS2 which will see a huge rise in the demand for housing from people relocating from London. It will surpass Manchester in the next decade.

​@peterwilliamallen1063 you need to stop using this arbitrary distinction to argue what is and isn't Manchester. It's like saying the City of London is a different city to Westminster, and thus they are different and can't be grouped together; especially anything outside these 2 areas which is a significant part of central London.

@@Alto53 London has always been a different set up from the rest of the UK, the City of London is only 1 mile square, but the rest of London are classed as boroughs of London and classed as London for reason unknown for over 100 years,even my Mother and Grand Mother who were Londoners could not explain this, the rest of the UK is totally different you have Metropolitan County council, Shire Councils Cities and Towns, a city is defined as p lace usually with a Cathedral and is designated by the Queen or now by the King, now Greater Manchester Metro County Council like the West Midlands Metro County Council are not CITIES just county Councils set up in 1974, the Cities are the City of Birmingham and the City of Manchester which are Cities designated at certain times in History by the reigning Menarche of the time, so the Cities of Birmingham and Manchester are designated by their respective City Boundaries not County Boundaries so in this context you can not claim that The West Midlands Metropolitan Area is the City of Birmingham like you can not claim that Greater Manchester Metropolitan County Council is the City of Manchester because it is NOT full stop, so in this context why do Manchester People keep comparing the population size of Greater Manchester to the Population of the City of Birmingham, Liverpool or Newcastle, sorry Greater Manchester has not one thing to do with the City of Manchester they are two totally different interties, one a City in its own Right, the City of Manchester and one a Metro County Council called Greater Manchester County Council and Towns and Cities with in Greater Manchester can not be claimed as Manchester unless they are with in the City Boundary of the City of Manchester, it is like saying the City of Coventry and Wolverhampton are the city of Birmingham because they are in the county of West Midlands, so why is every one classing Manchester so different to the rest of the country, sorry London has all ways been classed differently to the rest of the country.
