what a genius one must be to compose pieces like this!

My mom bought me a tape of 'The Snowman' when I was about three. The last time I saw it was when I was about 4. I've had that piece in my head for ~13 years, as well as some of the imagery, and for some of those years, without knowing the name, I've been trying to find this. Today, the title, 'The Snowman', just spontaneously popped in my head. Then I found the animation, then the composition's title, and then this video. I've always remembered it's melody.

My favorite Christmas special of all time. Here is my back story: "When I was a small child, I lived in the US [still do], and was just beginning to watch animation at a very young age. This program was and continues to be a part of my life because of the loss of both my arms and legs [spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy] and the way I learn [special needs]. Although I have done more research on animation, this is STILL something I ALWAYS look forward to a fair amount of times during the holidays. Cannot tell you how much I enjoy this achievement on television! Warm regards, all.

The beautiful sequence when the boy rushes out to see the (spoiler) melted snowman, and Howard Blake's excruciating music. - a repeated minor figure which lands and stays on the lower note… and then slides down a semitone to start a reprise of Walking in the Air. Devastating, beautiful and utterly brilliant. That bit lasts about 8 seconds. And it gets me every single time. Wonderful.

One of my earliest memories as a child was reacting to this precise moment in The Snowman. I think it might be the first time I ever understood the feeling of heartbreak.

Same here - knew the tune of the snowman now for about 35 years without knowing where it came from and also never heard it between. Those times, you had to meet two conditions - it needed to be broadcasted on TV (in my case Germany) and you had to have time and the allowance of your parents to watch TV. And also here, the music was so sticky. I stumbled over it by chance in KZbin - I knew that I had it in my ears for so many years. And only with the film sequence also recalled that I had actually seen the movie. Thanks for that lovely tune - one that sticked throughout childhood until late thirties- thanks @howardblake
