Jess is a freaking soldier, she doesn't need any man to help her. I was getting vertigo just watching you all climb over in the beginning. A brave women she is.

@exohio2 жыл бұрын
@@Lee-eu6wf Matt is really brave too. He does some crazy stuff to entertain us. I can name a whole list of things he does that other explorers would never do. I think he's the one who motivates the other explorers the most. But we expect him to be brave because he's a man. It's not everyday you see a girl like Jess doing what she does, even better than a man can do it. She's inspiring to other women out there. Sam is a lucky guy. I hope to see them on more explores together. I feel like they complement each other very well, they take things more seriously, they are quiet, not loud and obnoxious as a group. They both pay attention to the details and the history. When the others are together, they sound like a group of kids running a muck (even though they aren't but they sure sound like it) they have too much 'fun', they ghost hunt too much and don't pay attention to the other finer details. They have a different audience I suppose.

I remember going there in the late 80’s when I was a kid! The large building at the end had old arcade machines in it and from what I can remember housed a lot of rolled up carpet. How times have changed. Thanks Matt for showing us what it’s like now. :) 👍

Amazing footage, and nice history lesson at 20:15 too. Also, this is the _only_ footage I've seen that shows the bathing pool at the end of the pier (bottom right, 0:30), which I remember seeing when I was a kid... We took the natural jetty approach at low tide.

Interesting. I have a photo of me on there in 1969. Round the back of the beer place they had an area with pedal cars.. guess what.. They were free and great. The steps at the end of the upper concrete went to a big slide thing. Don't remember if I went on that.. probably not being 3. My grandparents lived in Weston. Haven't been back in more than 50 years. Thanks for bringing back some very distant memories.

Founded by two Scottish brothers, the firm of P&A Campbell originated on the Clyde but the operation was transferred to the Bristol Channel in the 1860s. From its inception, P&A Campbell dominated steamer travel on the Bristol Channel, both for tourism and trade between Bristol and South Wales. From the Hotwells Basin to the ports of Cardiff, Penarth, and Barry, the steamers of Campbell's were a regular sight.

The thing at 9:00 is 100% a surveying prism. Like you said it's to see if the walkway moved. Somewhere on the land there'll be a nail in the ground where they'll set up a total station (theodolite). It's most likely that they'd either use a GPS prism to find out an accurate position on the total station or use prism with other nails in the ground which have known positions. Once the location on the total station is set up then like you said they'll shine a "laser" and be able to tell if it's moved and by how much. If I remember correctly, depending on the total station used the smallest measurements possible is something like a hundredth of a mm (also depends on how accurate the setup was).

Hi Matt very dangerous place to be in,but enjoying the video,looking at the old photos of the Pier it looks amazing especially the side shoot for the boat trip to pool,it's a shame to see it deteriorating away but like so many of the old piers around the UK the cost would be tremendous to save,with so meny losted forever sadly Birnbeck Pier looks like it's heading for the same way,nice to see Sam and jess in video thanks for sharing 👍

that boat chute looks like one they used to have in blackpool , unlike the log flume where you are attached to a track all the time the old ones just fired you down a chute and just counted on the speed and boat shape to power you across the pond and a bloke used to i think either hook onto the boat or throw you a rope and drag you to the dock.

I must have been on there in the 1980s, but can't remember anything about it - probably because the buildings were already largely boarded up and there wasn't much to remember! The PS Waverley certainly is still around the Clyde - I went on it to Rothesay a few years back. (Incidentally, everybody gets searched for alcohol before they board for the return journey, and any found is confiscated - although it doesn't make that much difference as everybody is usually pissed by then anyway - and some of them end up fighting and getting dragged off by the police at Helensburgh or Greenock!)
