@blackspace0078 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't take that as racist. Back in 1965, martial arts was very much an unknown art outside of the Asian population, and even than it was only some people who studied it. Bruce Lee caught a lot of flack for teaching it in the U.S from the Masters in China, so back than, very much a big deal to even be in a class learning it. Now there's McDojo's all over the place, handing out black belts in 6 mos. Improperly calling it Karate whether it's Chinese, Korean, Japanese etc styles. That was 1965...not 2016

You pretty much stated you have no proof but yet you call me an idiot..BTW I saw your edited comment so no need to hide it Also you stated that Kindle's quote has no proof even though it was from bruce lee's own daugher who knew him, and you back that up by saying we should get a dictionary..My god the idea of backing up your statements make little sense Anyway, If it is in his book, show a quotation from it since I'm positive you read that book with your heart and are willing to back your statements with it...What documentaries again show some proof.. People that met bruce lee? While I do not deny that a lot of people did meet bruce lee and document his info from him, but the issue here is that, these kind of statements will always be taken with a grain of salt since anyone could claim such a thing especially on the internet. Again I'm trying to prove myself wrong here and be educated by someone who is willing not to pull crap out of thin air, but I guess you aren't taking that chance

They wanted it from a third perspective. Chill out dude.
@7srchoed8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's my point. Adding a third perspective because you can't have the two leads be people of color. "Too Ethnic." Major studios constantly do this, they can never tell the story of people of color through their own eyes. They are never allowed to tell their own story. Maybe the studios are right to have such low opinions of the majority mainstream audience that they can't relate to a character outside their culture. They have to add a white face to basically play "the viewer".
@7srchoed8 жыл бұрын
Aamer Kastoff Wow, so many words on the basis that you assumed I'm white. Damn it, those movie studios are right and you're their target audience. "The Last Samurai" was your fault.
@KingNefiiria8 жыл бұрын
Yo Yo The Last Samurai was about a white man who had to adjust to a new culture because he was taken in as their prisoner. It could have been about any other non-Asian culture and it would have made just as much sense. Brad Pitt got the part because he's famous and people like him. Again, chill the fuck out. You assume a lot about a culture you seem to understand very little about. The equivalent of this is China making a film about boxing and they want a Chinese lead. America is still predominantly white, and Western Culture is still predominantly white. If you have a problem with that, *feel free to move to any other non-western country that provides you the same convenience and freedom to complain about something as **_stupid_** as what you are complaining about right now,* while not getting punished for it. SJW's only exist in the Western World because our laws provide them the freedom to spout their dumb-ass rhetoric all day long with no repercussions.
@LemmyKBrinkwood8 жыл бұрын
normally i'm totally on board with booing out this whitewashing thing. like when they make a movie about another ethnicity and cast them with white people. but in this case, it actually kinda makes sense, as it has been said, that the fight occured because the chinese community of san francisco didn't want bruce lee to teach kung fu to non chinese. check out bruce lees wikipedia page. it's written down there.
@tdickensheets6 жыл бұрын
Shannon Lee, the daughter of Bruce Lee, distanced herself from the film, saying that the film, like others about her father, "lack a complete understanding of his philosophies and artistry. Actually, if you pay a lof of attention to Bruce Lee, there were two sides to him: the wise philosopher, and the cocky-as-hell bad-ass who knew that he was a bad-ass. Both of these versions of Bruce Lee co-existed to make him who he was.

As an Asian American, I'm actually fine with this. They are not replacing any "Asian" characters to be played by a white person, they are simply telling a story in a different perspective. Sure, it wouldve been interesting to just have a movie tributed entirely for Bruce Lee and told from his perspective, but I feel like this movie is offering a fresh perspective that I have not even thought about before.

Well...the only advice I can give is not to watch American made martial arts films. I lost interest in this one as soon as I saw it billed as "From the Martial Arts Team Behind X-Men". The US takes actors and gives them a crash course in martial arts. Asia takes martial artists and gives them a crash course in acting. If you actually want to see good martial arts, the US isn't the best place to look. We may have a few standouts, but you're better off going to the source.

cleancut05 Pretty much yeah. But people apparently have something built up in their heads about what kind of person he was---without having known him personally and then make an assumption about how he is represented in this movie just from a couple of clips from the trailer. Watch the movie first, then form your opinion about how he was portrayed, and THEN do a little research about what kind of person he really was and decide if the movie did him justice or not. The amount of comments on here about how they are portraying BL in this flick is pretty laughable.

Yeah. Based on Meo S. I did several research on Bruce Lee a while ago. If you want to know if the story is correct, then, no. The only thing correct is they fought, and the names. First, Wong Jack Man, a San Francisco Chinese martial artists, challenged Bruce Lee to a fight, if claimed victory, Bruce would have to stop teaching marital arts to non-chinese and caucasians. The fight only lasted for 3 minuets, stated by a documentary. Wong Jack Man did not "TEACH" bruce lee about "self discipline" and "limitation" Bruce Lee was dissapointed with the fight, thinking that he could have betten him faster, but back then he was only using Wing Chun, and sees many flaws with his fighting style that only "LIMITS" him to one way of fighting, and realizes, "Using no way as a way; having no limitation as limitation."- Bruce Lee.

This did happen. The contest that Lee won, and the the monk challenging him to a fight. Lee wins, but the fight itself is supper controversial as to how it went down.
@danielhill32617 жыл бұрын
I can promise you that the fight looked nothing like it does in this trailer- what with the monk running up the wall and then cartwheeling over Lee's head. This "based on a true-story fight scene" is so obviously inspired by the "Matrix" fight scene between Neo and Morpheus, that I wouldn't be surprised if Yuen Woo-Ping choreographed it.

This movie is pure trash... People have been waiting for years to see an up to date biopic about Bruce Lee and this is what they decided to do? this shit is going to be Forbidden Kingdom, Dragonball Z and etc all over again. lmfao

***** Forbidden Kingdom was complete trash it was a film directed by a white guy that was completely obsessed with Asian culture and martial arts he had the perfect opportunity to give people what they've waited years for to see a great story with the legends Jet Li and Jackie Chan but what did he do he dropped the ball and made 80s karate kid 2.0 featuring Jet Li and Jackie Chan. People see through the bullshit now, nobody's going to pay to see yet another movie about a white guy whose misunderstood then moves/ teleports to a foreign country becomes the chosen one, saves the day and gets the foreign girl while his foreign sidekicks bow their heads and celebrates alone. So you can play the victim and claim the movie is unfairly viewed all you want. People are fed up with the white washing bullshit. And I'm extremely proud that the Asians are standing up and saying we're not taking this shit anymore... And FYI, I've been a MGTOW with a thriving career in the Nightclub industry for about 3 years now. So, i'm far from a Feminist or an SJW. I simply callout the bullshit the way I see it.

Why df are they portraying Him this way? This is disrespectful to him legacy! How can you make a movie making him look the total opposite of what he stood for! No matter, Hollywood will make a better version after this movie releases so I'm not trippin.

this movie is an insult to Bruce Lee, his family, & his legacy!! his teaching was to show how important it is not to limet yourself just to one form & to be open minded to all forms of martial arts. yes he spoke about the limitations of traditional martial arts, but not cause he thought he was the future. but cause traditionally kung fu teaches to strick form & to strictly stay to one style & you only do things certain ways & also it was to be taught to anyone not Chinese, Japanese, etc. He created Jeet Kune Do as a way for anyone who wanted to learn kung fu & to show the importance of not being limited to one style & the benifets or combing different forms. basically he was the first to teach mma. I highly doubt the Bruce Lee foundation, linda Lee, or Shannon Lee would be ok with this movie.

Luis Perez I love Bruce lee, big fan but Bruce lee wasn't the best out there, I read it, Don't get me wrong I hate to put anybody over Bruce, god forgive me for saying that but, there were 7 black guys from Chicago who were dangerous or maybe a little better than Bruce, only difference is they just won't on camera, I think they were called the the forgotten furry, look them up.

I just thought about that, if this movie really was about bruce lee and the monk trying to prove each wrong or who's better; why the fuck should the story line include a random white guy? I think hollywood believes we need to see a white guy on screen to watch it...which actually is the opposite in this case.
