Wow man... I came across ur channel because I'm from Birtley, I'm 39 now and just recently moved out of Birtley from the new houses built on the old BOC. I love my old 90s years and always always wish I could go back. I get wrong for looking at past and not the future alot, or did from my exwife and why I've left Birtley for Jesmond. But see lord lawson and the all weather pitch with portmeadse in the background made me so sad but so happy at the same time. I lived in portmeads from being born till 21... The old "hooter" from lordies could be heard from my house!! Good old Number 72 an end terrace... Im 39 now as I said but the chalk i made as a goal is STILL on the side of the wall now!!! I remember being on my tip toes to make the goal as big as possible. I slyly walked my dog there a few month a go and stood on my tip toes to see how much higher Ive grown and where the top of the goal would be if I drew it now hahaha. Ahhh man.. Thanks for this....

Sadly, not all towns, villages kept a photographic history. Maybe the powers that be didn't look into the future and see change coming. But people like Phillip did and set out to capture a bygone era. And its important to keep a history of your family too. When I was a lad we had tons of family photos. Sadly, for some unknown reason, someone stole them all. There was my mum potato picking, my parents wedding, nan and grandad on holiday, us kids playing around. Uncles in the forces (WW2) None can be replaced, only memories exist. Thanks for taking me on your journey.

Its a shame there was not more photos taken James. I remember so many places in Birtley that have gone. I have tried for years to find some I have collected a lot as I have History Groups on Facebook. People have sent me photos and books. That is so sad your photos were stolen. Hope you and your good lady are well

Another fine video Colin now I feel really old! I can remember the Chinese at the bottom of Orchard street when it was the Goldfinch wine stores and when I got my first library card it was situated in the middle of the shops opposite what's now B&M stores before the new one was built.

Look at the rust on that MK 4 Ford Cortina.. 01:45 in this video ... Back when all a car needed for an MOT test was a car that had steering/brakes and did not have bald tires.
