BISCOITOS: SCENIC PARISH

Biscoitos ("Biscuits") is a parish in the municipality of Praia da Vitória, located on the north coast of the island of Terceira (Azores), with an area of 26.30 km2 and 1,450 inhabitants (2021). The town was known as Biscoitos do Porto da Cruz, as it developed on the lavitic lands (the cookies) located around the Port of the Cross, at times an important fishing and whaling port. The lower part of the territory of the parish is one of the main wine centers of the Azores, constituting simultaneously a protected landscape area integrated in the Terceira Natural Park and an area demarcated by wine production in traditional curraletas where liqueur white wines are produced from the cultivation of traditional varieties, especially verde.
