Diane is so right! Hymns are for the people to sing! We have the “Praise team” in my church. THEY are only ones who can sing their songs! I SO miss traditional hymns!!
@hoorooblu3 жыл бұрын
@Janet Flier sounds like the praise team at your parish now exists to receive praise, not encourage the giving of it. Poor you! (Might be time for you to join the parish council that governs your church- and recommend some praiseteam policy changes). If you dont sing your heritage songs, you lose your connection to several hundred years of varied musicmaking (tell them they won't know the best songs for singalongs in heaven). Or try an Epsicopalian highchuch - tends to let you sing a bit of everything if you have the right vicar/priest who loves singing. In my Church of England in London UK, we even sing 'the Battle Hymn of the Republic' with great joy, whilst happily living in a constitutional monarchy with a terrifically dutiful Queen (we like our monarchy: they are a family in service to us, and us to them). Tolerance and inclusiveness in song makes it easier to try to achieve it in life. Remind your praise team that even at the highest level of royal church services in UK, with the best choirs, you will find that the congregation sings hymns along with the royals, the clergy and the choristers. Egalitarian church services! That is what you need. It is a shame if a church in a 'USA democracy' is less egalitarian with music than royal church services in England. Queen heads a constitutional monarchy ( which, admittedly, runs as a parliamentary democracy where the monarch now has fewer kingly powers than the US president - an irony of history). Dont tell the praiseteam that UK is fuctionally more democratic than USA: use egalitarian songrights in UK to win some hymnrights for your congregation in your church. Democracy is powerful.. vote with your voice in parish council...or with your feet. Good luck.

@@hooroobluWell, we here in the USA have many churches of many ilks. My church is Presbyterian, like hers. It is the Church of Scotland, just as our Episcopal church is the Church of England. Hymns sung by the whole Congregation are very popular here.

I love the fact that Diane bish still plays and enjoys the pipe organ even during these challenging times.

This is not recent. Look at the choir, they are not practicing social distancing/wearing masks. This seems like a few years ago based on the video quality and everything.

What I love about these arrangements and interludes are the modulations, even if she returns back to the home key when the congregation comes in, it's great to hear what she (and many other talented organists) can do

My heart believes God will have His most magnificent and glorious pipe organ in heaven custom made and ready for Diane - - and He will appoint her Head Organist for ETERNITY! Ha ha! 😃 She is the most amazing organist I could ever be privileged to hear - in my generation or ANY generation!

@@wurlitzer895 Ha, I thought 5 was excessive. Wow. Need some memory for the stops, or is there a map?!
@wurlitzer8952 жыл бұрын
@@jimb9063 Have you checked it out yet? If so, you may have noticed that 'only' the upper 4 manuals have the standard 5 octaves; the bottom two are 7 octaves with the 'middle' manual being 6 octaves, but starting and finishing on a 'G', rather than a 'C'. I'm sure there must be a 'stop map' for organists, but I guess one would have to rely on the pistons - but there are so many, that you'd probably also need a map for those!! I'm more than happy with my 3 manual, here in south London!!! All the very best, Jim. Best as always, Pete A :) :) :)

@@wurlitzer895 Ah thanks for the info, it's a beast! Learned to play on a 3 manual in the church my parents went to, also sung in the choir with my Dad. Hyfrydol was one of his favourite hymn tunes, I looked this video up near his birthday. Not a church goer now, but still respect and love a lot of the music. Take care, and "let your merry organ go!"

@@jimb9063 Lovely that you should have sought out the hymn; it's indeed a lovely one. Thanks for your kind good wishes, which are heartily reciprocated.
