Thank you so much. I nearly abandoned a sewing pattern after reading instructions to offset fabrics and sew button holes to insert a busk... It seemed very wrong. This looks much much easier, and neater.

I actually had a moment of wonder when you put the busk in- I was like, IT'S MAGIC!! :'D I always wondered about the mechanics of all the bits and pieces that go into making a corset. Thank you very very much for all your wonderful tutorials!!

Just wondering, how do you find the right position for the busk? I have a 30cm busk to insert but my corset front is about 10cm longer. Should I line the centre of the busk up with the waistline of the corset or something? Thanks!

@bishonenrancher What is your total opinion on zippers versus busks? I find zippers easier to use and so I tend to like them more, but I'm wanting to do some serious cinching in the future in order to prepare myself for my wedding in four months ! :-O

May I ask, is there anyway I could incorporate a zipper as the front closure and somehow keep the sturdiness a double busk provides?

I need to make some corsets for a play. I am a somewhat experienced costumer, I've only ever made corsets without boning, they were purely for looks and were used on very thin women. Sorry for rambling, but here is my question: Are busks very necessary in making a laced corset? Is it bad if instead of using a busk I just stitch the front together and it only laces up in the back?

Generally, how far from the top of the fabric is the top edge of the busk located? And this same question concerning the bottom edge of the fabric and the bottom of the busk..
@LucysCorsetry9 жыл бұрын
+Anna Medvecky I prefer to have the busk length pretty much fill the channel, or maybe half an inch shorter in total (or 1/4 inch at top and bottom) - that is to say, the busk ends, then the binding is sewn 1/4 inch away from the top and bottom edge. That little extra space will prevent you from hitting the busk with your needle when sewing on the binding at the top and bottom - but it won't be so short that a lot of the front is unsupported.

i bought the prym brand heavy duty hooks and eyes, BUT it is now i realize i should have gotten a#perforated steel bones or busk, to set them in, or i can use a power drill and drill them myself i suppose, however i choose to go with the no busk method but i have THREE pack of these hooks and eyes and i want to put them to use of corse

Can we use a zipper instead of the busk? :)
@LucysCorsetry10 жыл бұрын
Some people do use a heavy-duty metal zipper instead of a busk - but be sure to stabilize it with bones, and stitch the zipper in very securely so it doesn't come apart. :)

Is there a web site you recommend for corset supply's I am going the try making me a corset but i'm not sure where i can buy the supply i need to make it.
@LucysCorsetry7 жыл бұрын
If you're in Europe, I recommend Vena Cava. If you're in the US, try Corset Making Supplies. If in Canada, look into Farthingales. :)
